Shooting federal gold medal match 168gr in 15 mph gusts at half value at 200 meters my new M1A posted a best 3 round group of 1.5 MOA. Oh yeah...that was with the factory irons too and no THIS ISNT THE MATCH RIFLE EITHER.

I have to say for anyone in the market for a semi automatic 308; I've tried cetmes, fals and now the M1As. Do yourself a favor and buy the Springfield. It has to be one of the best rifles I have ever handled. Kudos to the boys at Springfield armory.

Great, glad you're happy with it. Was this the basic model or the "loaded" model with the somewhat heavier barrel?

I do love my M1A! Though I would take issue with only a 3 shot group; doesn't truly reflect the abilities of the rifle or the shooter.

Were you using a scope, or open sights?

Average MOA was 2.5 inches but that was because of the wind/bad shooter. And it's the thinner barrel version.

And OneTime, if this helps; when I'm shooting the Springfield i feel like a surgen using a scalpel to carve out the target. I can't wait to see what happens when I add a better trigger and better sights.

Come to think of it, I do not like the trigger. But that's an easy fix.

At one time SA would do a match grade trigger, 3.5-4.5lb two stage modification for $25. I had one of mine done when back for a new bolt, best $25 I've spent.

The M1A standard shoots great indeed. A few months back I got a 2MOA 10 shot group at 100 yards using regular ole' Federal Powershock 150gr JSPs.

I was using a scope, but to me this 10 shot group with normal ammo says a lot about the potential of these rifles...

Looks like a good group. I see nothing wrong with using a scope to test load accuracy. Then take the scope off, sling up, and get a good tight position!

You know...this thread would be a lot better with pics of rifles!
