Picked up the new 9mm Springfield Saint Victor yesterday. Took it to the range today and put 550 rounds through it. Also ran it back and forth with my Saint Edge in 5.56 for comparison. My observations:
I was expecting this to be a good gun based on my experience with the Edge and my M1A Scout. I was not disappointed!
- 4 different types of ammo: 115 gr. Federal FMJ, 124gr. Federal FMJ, 124gr. Federal HST, and my own loads (Montana Gold 124gr. HP/4.4gr. Bullseye). No difference in point of impact at 25 yards. Keyhole groups. No malfunctions of any type.
- Bolt must be locked back for the magazine to seat properly.
- Recoil is slightly more than the 5.56 due to the blowback design. However, it is still very manageable. Rapid 3 shot strings stayed right on target.
- Surprisingly quiet firearm. When asked, two guys at the range both stated the Victor was a good bit quieter than my P229 (with the same ammo) and there is no comparison to the Edge in 5.56 which was described as "magnitudes louder".
- Factory flip up sights are effective and will be used as back-up to a Sig Romeo5.
- This model has a safety switch that only rotates 45 degrees instead of 90. It is a really nice idea and makes manipulation of the safety easier.
- 32 round Colt pattern mags were hard to load the first time and got easier after a few uses.
I was expecting this to be a good gun based on my experience with the Edge and my M1A Scout. I was not disappointed!
