That's a very nice refinish...
Look how it drew out the wood's grain. Very lovely.
You should go to the Marlin factory and teach those slobs how to do it.

They are both the same Winchester. It just had that nasty glossy stock. Yes I did refinish it myself.

Thanks George. Marlin really does a quick and dirty job on their stocks dont they.

How did I do it...I went to gunsmithing school and was taught by the best. PM me if you want one done or if you want to discuss steps.

FBMG Smithy

It sure is amazing that the most basic thing they teach there turns into basically the most important skill - proper sanding/refinishing of both metal and wood! :D

Great job!

You know, I've done up several old (pre 1970 or thereabouts) stocks in BLO followed by a homebrew oil/wax finish, and it amazes me the wood that the old stocks are made of... and that they were covered with nasty varnish or shellac.

Thanks guys. That hard finish they put on there is called an RKW finish and yes it's harder than the hubs of hell. I've done a couple refinishes on those that it has taken 3 days to get it all off with good chemical stripper. The guns look better with the natural colors of the wood visible anyway.
