Seems it is trying to rear its ugly head again...

Excerpt
163 House Democrats – over 80% of the entire caucus – signed onto an open letter [PDF] Thursday addressed to Republican House Speaker John Boehner demanding that he allow “a vote on substantive legislation to address gun violence.” The timing of the letter suggests that Democrats are prepared to make gun control in an issue in the 2014 midterm elections, despite evenly divided public opinion and staunch opposition from the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA).

Guess DC is just mimicking Wa State Dem's, Their 2014 party goals.
"Comprehensive gun-sale background checks, including criminal, mental health, and domestic violence checks, and waiting periods, applicable to gun shows and other transactions; mandatory registration and licensing; required safe gun storage; safety training for all gun owners; a limit on volume buys of firearms by an individual; and a total ban on assault weapons and oversized ammunition magazines". they also have endorsed "Duty to Retreat"

Ooh maybe they can get Obama and Pelosi to do their campaign commercials for them too.
Pelosi doesn't want anything to do with gun control and in fact she admitted it cost the Democrats the House and her throne. 48 Democrats during the time she was Speaker signed a document that they would not support or vote for any further gun control measures Obama might want.

2bfree,,,thank you for the link

I just sent them a pretty strong letter. I like how they "slipped" in their onerous gun control agenda in the mix.

Its time WA turned republican and I will do all I can to further that effort.

No way could they possibly be this stupid.* Not unless they are really gonna try putting all their eggs in the "women" basket (which won't work anyway since more women than ever are getting into shooting and will no longer buy into the gun-fretting paranoia fed to them, historically)

I say, while there's no need for Boehner to bring a bill to the floor (to be promptly stomped into the dirt by a super-majority, then the failure blamed on Republicans just like their current refusal to bring a bill up is already ), by all means let the anti's take the reigns of the opposition party this year.

*I go into politics, normally verboten on this site, solely because the Democratic party has made gun control such a prominent and permanent plank in their national-level party platform, that to deny their open hostility to second amendment causes is to deny reality.

...but she sure did sign on with the others to this request.

Her signature is there.

Check to see whether your Representative also signed. We in NW Mn have a Democrat, Colin Peterson, who DID NOT sign. I've already written to thank him.

If they want to make it a midterm issue, let them. That strategy has backfired on the anti's before, and they must have awfully poor memories if they are going to try it again.

Like I said, this is the classic political "blame, regardless" tactic wherein they (either side) pressure the majority party to vote on something they obviously will not pass, in order to then blame then for obstructing the bill (even though they brought it to the floor). If the majority refuses, then they are blamed for refusing to hear opposing arguments or being obstructionist of some such nonsense. Anyone with a brain knows that bringing up a vote on a bill that won't pass is mere waste of the tax-payers' money, but most aren't paying attention beyond the headlines.

I honestly think it'd be useful if Boehner did have weekly faux-bill votes on stuff like a ban on all semi-autos, just to reinforce, frequently, just how little appetite there is for such things on both sides of the aisle. But knowing our congress critters, they'd accidentally pass one when a bunch of reps hit "Pat Buchanan" instead of "No" by mistake :banghead:. Maybe they could have non-binding votes on the anti's wishlist, just to be safe? It's got to be more productive than naming post offices or sending bills to the Senate they know won't pass (so making fun of the opposition becomes the only productive activity :D)

I understand why the requests for votes on subjects that are sure to never pass get brought up. That way you can blame the other side for being obstructionists. But to continue to use false or misleading statements to get there....

The letter, dated June 26, to Speaker Boehner requesting the vote on substantial gun legislation is still quoting 74 school shootings since Sandy Hook.

Come on.

Anyone who under estimates the resolve, financing, and political support of the anti-gun eliments will be woke up - and soon.

We may be winning a battle here and there but we are still loosing the war when it comes to preserving our personal freedoms, including, but not limited to, the right to keep and bear arms.

Just the fact that we have to work this hard and expend this type of money to try to hang onto the rights that all our elected officials have sworn to protect should tell you something.

Gun "rights" won't mean a thing if and when there's a broad consensus in the population that guns, in general, are "bad." I'm afraid it's reached that point in several parts of the country. So the struggle is, first and foremost, a struggle for "hearts and minds" more than it's a struggle in the courts or in the legislatures. The antigunners seem to have reached that conclusion before our side has. We have a long way to go before the large majority of people see guns primarily as a force for good. I'm actually very pessimistic about this.

Vote vote vote. We have to keep pro 2a politicians in the house and senate.
