I just read about Taurus's new 24/7 OSS Pistol. It seems like they want to make an entry for the new SOCCOM pistol. I don't know what you think, but I don't think Taurus stands a chance against HK's, Sigs, and what other manufacturers submit entries. Taurus's new pistol seems like a cheap copy of other reputable pistols. I could be wrong. Please give me feedback and your belief as to whether or not Taurus is a worthy competitor in SOCCOM's competition. Thanks.

Have you read many bad things about the 24/7s? I haven't. Have the 24/7s proven reliable under extreme conditions? I don't know. I am sure it would have to be to compete against the likes of the other manufacturers.
If the pistol proves to be reliable and cheaper, then the others better watch out.
I personally like Taurus guns but not sure if it's the right gun manufacturer for what you are talking about.

I never thought too highly of Taurus products in the past, but my PT1911 is changing my thinking. I wouldn't be jumping to buy one of their polymer pistols, but the OSS seems to be a good product. Taurus's QC has improved a lot over the years, so if the price was right, I'd buy one. I just hope Taurus doesn't offer the OSS at an inexpensive price and raise it the way they did with the PT.

Everything I have heard about the Taurus 24/7 Pro has been good. They incorporate a lot of extras as standard build. It's a very good pistol for the price and the quality exceeds the price range.

Actually - I have seen a few neg things about the 24/7 - some people having issues. I wouldn't by one with their abysmal customer service. I will admit that the gun LOOKS nice, though.

I like the looks also. I linked to the picture in the Guns&Ammo article.

A "memory dish" is an indentation on the frame where you are supposed to rest your finger when not firing the gun. I had to ask the same question the last time I went to my local gun shop.

aubie515 - I do not believe Taurus raised the price of the PT1911. I would be more inclined to believe that the places that are selling them have realized how popular they are and they are raising there prices to make more profit. I bought my first PT1911 at a gun show for right around $450.00 and even the guy that was selling it to me was trying to talk me out of it because "it was a Taurus" less then a year later with no change in MSRP from Taurus the same guy was selling them for $550.00 and said he could not keep them in stock and how great they were lol I ended up buying one for my Dad somewhere else for $535.00 as that was the best price I could find, most are asking upward of $600, now the place I paid $535.00 just 2 months ago is asking $625.00 :eek:I have seen no change in what Taurus says the MSRP is.

Back to the OP

The 24/7 OSS has every right to be in the same class as the HK and SIGS and for the price It makes it IMO even better then the compatition. I can not wait to get my hands on one :D

I played with one of these at the NRA Convention in St Louis. Good ergonomics, solid feel, mushy trigger (compared to a Sig or a 1911) but what new DAO pistol doesn't have that these days. Solid "feel". I was favorably impressed. I think Taurus is one of the more innovative companies out there right now.

I handled the OSS at S.H.O.T. and liked the feel.
The military pistol trials have been dropped but probably Taurus will sell the guns commercially. We will just have to see abut the quality.

Kennyboy, that is Taurus's entry into the SOCOM competition, but since they've scaled back the competition to virtual nonexistance Taurus figured they could still sell them - and I'm pretty sure they're right.

They look to be pretty good pistols. I've been impressed with the ergonomics and features of the 24/7 Pros, and this looks to be the same. I love the DA/SA striker that will re-strike if there's a weak primer hit. I just wish they had a compact version.

I don't know when the change went into effect, but this time last year retail was $599. According to Taurus's website, retail is now $703. It's possible there were some changes, though.

I'm glad I got mine for $425. Unless I get to the point where I have to sell it immediately for any cost, I'll finally be able to NOT lose money on a new pistol. LOL

Not the official number - the tag just said 24/7C. Grip is a little longer to accomodate the extra round, rest of the dimensions seem to be the same as the Millenium Pro.

if ya want a compact version get a PT145 MilPRO or the .40 or 9 mm counterpart, all the same features in compact, I have one in each caliber, as well as several family members and ALOT of inlaws all Tucson bike cops that carry em as backup/OD guns I like the 10+1 capacity in the compact .45 myself and while its no match for my 1911s it sure beats the officers 6 round capacity in an near same size gun, My pt145 Milpro has been severally abused out here in the Tucson desert as it is with me always even if I have onea my fullsize 1911s or onea the Springfield XDs a hip holster while runnin the washes on my dirt bike the lil .45 is always tucked in somewhere on my gear as our property is up against BLM land and right smack in the middle of the primary smuggling rout into the state ya never go out for a ride without some hardware, for me its usually the lil PT145 and a Yugo underfolder AK slung across my back, both get hard use and are constantly full of sand and sweat neither has EVER faild in any way the .45 has exactly 8250 rnds through it as of last weekend its never experienced any type of failure not even during breakin, its been dropped while on my Harley at 80 mph and all it did was ding up the mag extension (plastic) I pressed out the dings with a piece of drill rod rolling it back and forth and the plastic formed right back to shape...... oh and even though it had one in the tube and the manual safty off...... no boom, I now carry it in a very tight fitted paddle holster to prevent a repeat

Where was this shop you saw the 24/7C at? and can you get a picture for us. I talked with Taurus a couple times and they have not even set a release date for those, not sure how they have one in the shop already

Would have been a nice addition to any gun arsenal. I got turned off because a friend had a cracked frame after firing 500 rounds of factory ammo. The crack is near the muzzle area. I think I'll pass up on this one.
