Well instead of buying new pellets for the muzzleloader I decided to go blackhorn 209 this year. I just picked up the cci 209 magnum primers and have a new breech plug on order. I'm shooting a 50cal cva optima v2.

any advice on the BH209 I should know about? Id like to shoot a fairly heavy bullet 250-300gr so do I need to hop up the charge to get them going?

BTW put this in rifle forum on accident. :)

When shooting very heavy bullets, it is safer to reduce the powder charge rather than increase it. Look at any reloading data table for any rifle caliber; you will see that as bullet weight goes up, powder charge goes down because that big ol’ heavy bullet moves slower and causes more pressure to build up behind it.

Admittedly black powder is more forgiving than smokeless and you can tinker with black powder volume a bit more for a given bullet weight. But remember that bullet has inertia so don’t go crazy.
