My buddy just bought some extra cylinders from Cabelas for his NMA and they use CCI #11 caps verses the Remington #10s that his original cylinder uses, threads are different too!

Buy some real black powder, forget that corrosive Pyrodex.

You may hear from the "cap pincher" group of shooters stating that buying loose caps and pinching them to make them stay on is the way to go. I don't agree. Pinching a cap to make it fit is no substitute for proper fitting caps.
You do what you have to do to make things work sometimes. I dont think in the old days when they really shot these things they were able to be so picky about how things fit.

Im just glad myself i dont have to pry them off like the brass ones i started with. Any caps i find now are WAY better then those wether i have to pinch em or not.

Tonight i found some winchester magnum #11 caps from walmart. Ide be set if they had .454 balls and 3FG powder as well i wouldnt have to drive 30 miles for anything.

Swath,

Glad you brought that up about the caps. I bought some cci 10& 11 caps. The 11's just fall off and the 10's seem to fit but I am not sure exactly how far they should sit on nipple. It seems the 10 fits better. When I go to range tomorrow and able to fire some rounds through it I will have a better I idea of what will work best for me. Of course the 10's are tighter. Just hope they are seated far enough. I will see

My only choice for powder at the moment is pyrodex P. I preloaded a cylinder with 30 g. Placed a wonder seal and seated the hornady ball. ,454. It seems it seated to deep though. Do I need a filler for the above load.

I used a table seater and it went all the way down.

I buy em both because ive found that all my guns are different.

I also found that when its clean one cap fits loose but after a few shots that fouling builds up and then it fits better.

I dont mind pinching them a little as long as they fire. All i really care about is if they fire. I dont want them to small

There is no such thing as "too deep". All that's necessary is that there are no air gaps between the ball and the powder. Some folks feel that the closer the ball is to the chamber mouth, the better it is for accuracy. However, there are many things more significant to accuracy that should be addressed first. For most of us it's unlikely we'll see the effect of the depth of the ball in the chamber on shooting accuracy.

You say that now but you cry about the fouling from your remingtons dont ya?

Not really. It'll only take another 5 grains or so anyway to get the ball up near the end of the chamber. If you wanted to wring out the best accuracy, you'd likely drop the powder charge to between 22-28 grains and then use corn meal filler to get the ball up near the mouth.

If you have plenty of wads, use two and skip the corn meal.

You can get 3lbs of real black powder delivered to your door for under $80. Certainly worth the few dollars difference compared with pyrodex to me. I clean a lot of guns and those that have had pyrodex through them take the longest to clean and frequently have rust in their barrels.
