Well folks,

After hunting around for a lever action .22 this came into my LGS and it had to follow me home.

It's a Winchester 94-22 in pretty good condition and I'm very happy with it.

Can anyone give me some info on dates? Serial #F1608xx I'd be much obliged.

And as “it didn't happen without pictures” here are some:

Not shot her yet, but will put up a range report later

Am going to put together a little thread on possibly why .22s appeal so much, will keep you posted!

ATB,

Nice! Should be late 1973. I picked up a new 9422 with brown laminate stock some years ago. Love the quality and heft - all steel! Very accurate with ammo it likes, mostly CCI, and not bad with the few it doesn't.

Cheers for the date. I seem to have bought another gun older than me.

Yeah, I love the heft. And "feels good in the hand" (cliche I know but it just is so slick and balanced).

Very nice rifle...congrats! If yours is a '73 then it probably has a steel inner magazine tube. I'm not sure when Winchester changed to the brass tube, but my '72 and '75 both have steel and the '82 model has brass. Just keep it lubed so you don't get any rust forming between the inner/outer tubes and you shouldn't have any problem with it.

Great find, Scrumbag.

One thing to be careful about is if you take it down, the bolt cam pin can easily come out. Don't lose it. It's part #2 in the diagram here.

Cheers folks and thanks for the link Dave. LGS warned me about that pin, I will be sure to keep a close eye on it!
