Hey guys, I went to the last gun reluctantly, but a friend from church wanted me to go with him to give advice on his possible AR-15 purchase. I dont like going on Sundays after church but Im glad I went to this one. I was just browsing the rows quickly (there was no-one there.....very strange) and came up on this Detonics Combat Master. I have a few and Im very fond of them but I wasnt really in the market for another one. So, luckily I bent over to read the nortoriously light engraving on the CM's slide and low-and-behold it was the very elusive .38Super!!!! I could hardly contain myself, smiling ear-to-ear! I asked to see it, and quickly made him an offer of 675.00 and he agreed!!! Anyway, I just wanted to share my excitement over this find. I never find anything rare, much less for a reasonable price. Im now kinda glad I went on this particular Sunday afternoon. Here are a few shots.

Nice grab, 38 Super is a nice catch, and, a nice price. Mine is a Georgia .45 and I love it.

IIRC, it was one of the first fifty out of Pendergast. Not surprising that it stayed here in Georgia.

I'd really love to get hold of a 9mm or 38 Super. The funny thing was that the one that I bought was the very first one that I had seen in a gun shop in close to thirty years of shooting.

Well, that makes yours a keeper for sure. I sure dont see many down here, maybe one, or two at the most per gun show. The 9mm and supers are even harder to find. In fact, I've never see a 9mm in person, and this is the only super I've ever seen. I had written it off due to scarcity and cost. But I guess "never say never". Kevin.

You scored. I recently saw one for sale. First one in 14 years in Kali, but, it was a .45, and,
I've already got a new Georgia CM.

Sorry about picture quality. They really don't due the gun justice. I'm not saying that in a bragging way, the serial # are 39xx out seattle I can't do the attachments and I have to have my wife do it, and as we know you don't always want her to know about every purchase. Just kidding shes actually a good sport I would like to pick up another one down the road. Right now I'm kinda interested in a H&K compact 45

That is a good looker my friend. So.....its a original Seattle gun that was refinished by Detonics in Georgia. Am I understanding that right? Either way it looks great! Congrats. Kevin.

It was designed for Condition 2 carry, so the sight was moved out of the way so they wouldn't impede the off hand from swiping back the hammer.

Exactly. I've seen a lot of people question this arrangement, pointing to the shorter sight radius, but for this type of weapon, created for a very specific purpose as a closer in defensive weapon, the reduced radius is irrelevant. I've also done enough shooting with the CM at 25 yards and beyond, and from what I have experienced the effect of the shorter sight radius has to be insignificant.

No need to apologize. They're gorgeous pictures.

Did you have to do that? Mark VII, hmm? Had one, sold it to my boss at the time, along with a Mark VI.:banghead:

yes its an orginal seattle gun. It was supposed to have been the last one georgia refurbished. Owner wanted some custom work done but they were closing and didn't have time. They did detonics duracoat copy, grips and replaced the springs everthing else is orginal seattle parts. I haven't shot it yet just put in safe.

Very cool .38 Super. I have never even seen a picture of one til this thread.

I have always wanted a Detonics and was just about to buy a GA model when the factory closed. I still kick myself for not buying one from Davidson's Gallery of Guns when they were stocking them. I thought I would wait and find one for less. Hah!!

They are still out there Scott. My buddy just bought a Georgia peach on GB for 600.00. Its in great shape too. Deals are out there, but its just like everything else, you just have to be patient. I wasnt even considering another Detonics because of my Colt addiction, but this one presented itself so I had to put the Colts on hold for a bit.
