As a result of a comment I made on another thread about my desire to find a decent model 64 at a decent price, I was contacted by another THR member who had some information on where I might find a great deal, through his LGS. As it happened, (to make a long story short) I ended up buying one from him. This all transpired in the first weeks of December. When the gun arrived about a week before Xmas, my wife decided that my fellow High Roader had "made shopping for me easier," so she wrapped it and put it under the tree.
Down side - I had to wait to shoot it.
Up side - I was getting a gun for Xmas! (my first ever Xmas gun, by the way)
With this time of year being silly-busy, I didn't get a chance to shoot it until this weekend. Saturday afternoon was relatively nice here in the St. Louis area, about 56° and mostly sunny with only a slight breeze. So, I pulled out my shooting accoutrements, and headed outside for a few minutes. We live on a small farm in Southern Illinois, which makes shooting just about anytime a reality. I asked the wife if she wanted to join me, but she declined saying, "You just go have your fun now. I'll shoot it another time." Love that woman.
I threw a small box on the ground in front of the berm around our lake, and proceeded to punch 12 nice holes in it.
Yep ... it's a Smith & Wesson.
(according to Radagast in the "Identity..." sticky, it's a DAO M64-5 heavy barrel from March of 1993, and the non-original grips are pre-1968)
