Well, as I posted earlier, I've been posting in every gun forum and searching every gun shop within 50 miles for about two years looking for a late Model 17 (with the full lug). This isn't an easy find in California, since you can't bring them into the state.
Then two weeks ago, a forum member tipped me off in email and I finally picked it up today.
Here is the "before" picture, all messed up with a sales tag, tons of fingerprints and ugly rubber tires:
I just knew that with a good, solid cleaning and some nice wood, this glorious pre-lock could reclaim some of it's glory.
I have some traditional medallion target stocks on the way, but threw on these really nice full-checkered rosewood stocks that I had for just such an occasion as a nice find. They cover the backstrap, but they look so nice that I might just keep them. Checkering is sharp and I like it!
Paired up with her sister, the 586-7, they make a nice pair:
