I’ve been looking for an easy to pack revolver for ATV riding for a while now.
Cleaning the 1911 and magazines after ATVing and getting all the grit out is a pain.
I was at the LGS recently and there was a model 60 three inch barrel.

I gave it a thorough check out and everything looked good.

Price might have been a little on the high side at $650, none the less, it now lives in the safe with its new family.

After a good cleaning I took it out for a little range trip and was pleased with the accuracy.

I think you did OK on the price. The three-inch guns are not easy to find.

I have the .38 version of that gun and it's one of my favorites. Perfect proportions and balance.

There's plenty of pre lock S&Ws floating around. They probably will never make them that good again but at least they made a lot of them for many years.

A five inch barreled variant would have been better, but not a bad handgun. I would not worry about MIM parts. Both of my Gen IV G20s have them and both perform well.

From your serial number, from the catalog, between Jan 1 1998 and Jan 1 1999. I have one also. Like it quite a bit.

A five inch barreled variant would have been better,

The gun's too small for that. The one pictured is perfect, and the price was right IMO. Can't say much for the grips, but they might be very functional. Enjoy that gun.

You will enjoy it and be well served. All you need now is a really good holster. I have a Bucheimer for my two inch 38. Great combination. Enjoy yours.

My 60 is my carry gun for self defence. I love it. Small, light and no damned safety to forget. Draw point and squeeze the trigger. All it needed was some fluorescent orange paint on the front sight.

Are the grips shown with yours standard? Nice looking. You remind me that I replaced my grips many years ago.

My CC is a 60-9 , 2" You have an excellent piece there. Perfect for your intended use. I prefer the 2' for IWB , but I am sure that the 3" is a superb shooter , and would ride nicely on the hip.

I paid $600 about a year and a half ago ; I think you did OK at $650 for the hard to find 3". I wish that the later models did not have MIM parts , but that is something we cannot control. Still an excellent carry.

I don't have a M60 but I do have a M640 which is almost the same revolver but no external hammer. It's one of my favorite revolvers and probably me favorite J frame. That revolver is scary accurate when shooting 145gr Winchester Silvertip .357 Magnum ammo... Enjoy your great revolver!

I opted for the 3" 60 Pro Series. NIB it was less than the $43 cost of it's standard wood grips more than the standard 3" 60. I paid $640 OTD for it 'in the good old days' (3.5yr ago!). It fits the same 3" 60 S&W holster I had bought for my 3" 63 (.22LR). I bought it after having bought a 5" 63 from a late friend's estate. That's right - a 5" J-frame! And it followed the first 5" J-frame offering - a 5" 60! Here is my J-frame collection - all wearing the same '60 Pro' grips, which, obviously, I like (... and they were $43!).

From upper left above and going CCW: 3" 60 Pro; 2 1/8" 632 Pro; 3" 63; 4" 651; and 5" 63. From a distance, the 5" 60 looks like the 5" 63 - except for the cylinder (and the HiViz I added ... and the grips!). The 5" 60 didn't sell well, thus it had a relatively short run - and probably would be hard to find.

I love my 3" 60 Pro! The only thing I wish it had was a HiViz front sight - the Tritium Night Sight is hard for me to pickup in anything but utter darkness - YMMV. I cannot speak to it's wood grips' effectiveness with real .357 Magnum loads as the hottest ammo I shoot in it is it's carry load - Remington .38 Special +P 158gr LHPSWC - and they are fine. Now, the 632 Pro with some hot 115gr Gold Dots in .327 Magnum, that's getting warm!
