Keep in mind if you ever have to change the scope adjustments, its turned sideways, so what says up or left or whatever, isnt. Thats driven many people batty over the years, some never figured it out. Its not that hard though if you look at it and think about it. "Up" becomes LEFT (according to the markings on the scope turrets), and RIGHT becomes UP.
The scope is turned 90 deg because it clears the top of the receiver so the shells can eject cleanly.

Yep it has and milled steel side mount that was bought in the early 60's and the scope was replaced in 1972 with the current Savage 3x9 Scope! But I planning on remove it and go with a peep site , sling, and a leather ammo carrier on the stock.

Great plan. I've used Williams receiver sights on my "heavy timber" rifles for over half a century and I can't imagine hunting with a rifle absent a sling.
