New to over under shotguns Phila. Pa

Just bought a new Charles Daly O/U shotgun. I have a question for anyone who shoots an O/U .

I dried fired this shot gun and much to my surprise i have to put the safety on and then off again to get the second barrel to ingauge the fireing pin on the second barrel.

Is this a normal for O/U shotguns,,,It will be hard for that second shot to remember to snap the safety on and then off again if shooting trap or skeet.

Maybe im doing something wrong,,as i said im new to O/U's

On an auto loader you just push the safety off and you can shoot till empty.

The recoil of the first shot will engage the second barrel. At leat I think it will. Try actually shooting it, rather than dry-firing it for your function test. I think it should work...

Correct on the recoil resets for second barrel.

Most guns come with a automatic safety as well. Each time gun is closed, safety come on.

Disable that feature. All clay shooters disable , and 95% of bird hunters too. The other 5% just don't know they can be disabled, or too cheap to see a qualified gunsmith to fix.

4 rules of Gun Safety, and incorporating these will keep you safe.

Heck, I/We removed safeties on competition guns, all legit and allowed. Just inform fellow shooters, RO and SO. Same as those folks shooting release triggers.

Yep, shot 1100s, 870s, 1300s Citories, Berettas...with the safety removed on purpose.

Never ever had a mishap - thru all the hundreds of thousands of rds I know of being fired - I shot my more that fair of these rounds too...

Might want to spend a few $$ on a set of snap caps, if you plan on doing much more of this...

Instead of engaging the safety, bump the stock against your thigh. You may have to do it fairly hard, but this will simulate the recoil and reset the firing mechanism to allow you to fire the second barrel. This isn't going to help your dry firing, but will tell you the recoil reset is working.

Also, I'm pretty sure that a gunsmith can change it to have mechanical reset triggers rather than recoil reset.

Most Over/Unders have this "feature". I have a Weatherby Orion that has mechanical reset.. ie, I can go click, click, without having to bump the stock. I never understood why they just didn't make them all mechanical. Is it something to do with the feel of the trigger?
