Geezuz, she got an older sister? No wait, any sister will do.( I need a pair of consecutively numbered SS 7.5" Vaqueros. I'll make the holster) Read your manual for a cast bullet target load. Dies is dies. They all, normally, fit any press. 7/8-14 is the normal thread. Carbide is in the sizer die only. Relax, it's ok. Buy a set of dies with a carbide sizer die.
The number of shots you get out of a pound depends on the load. 7,000 grains to a pound. IE: I use 4.5 grains in my .45ACP. That's 1550+ rounds to a pound.
Don't worry about your kid handling cast bullets. As long as he washes his mitts before he eats. Always. Mind you, hand loading is not something for kids to be doing. It requires complete concentration and kids don't do that. It's not a bad thing for him to learn though. It'll teach him patience if nothing else.
The kits should come with dies. They don't always though.
No .410's in a .45 colt chamber. That takes a different gun. And you don't need the grief.
No, you don't need a chronograph. Just follow your manual religiously.
Loading with a single stage press is a matter of technique. Do one operation to all your cases. Change the dies and do all of the next operation to all your cases. Use a bin on one side of unprocessed cases and a bin on the other for the processed cases. Use both hands. Into the shell holder with one hand and pull the handle take out with the other. Primed cases go into a loading block. Charge the cases with powder and use a bin for loaded cases.
