I am new to the 1911 pistol and this may be a stupid question. I just picked up my springfield EMP 9mm yesterday. I have been drooling over this gun for a year. But in getting acquinted with the gun (No ammo), I have noticed that the mag will not go in without pressing the mag release. Is this normai? Is this a security feature? or is this because there is no ammo in it?

test for too carefullness..

Lock the slide back, and push the magazine in. If it goes in just fine, and locks without pressing the mag release then be a little more aggressive when inserting the mag.

It will probably take more of a smack to get it in when you have a full mag. It won't hurt the gun so smack away!

:D

With ammo in the magazine, lock the slide back and hit the slide release to chamber a round.

I'm too young to be an official curmudgeon, but I'll impart some wisdom to you anyway.

Handguns, aside from the fancy-schmancy target toys, are weapons. They are designed to take rough use. I won't intentionally mistreat my handguns, but I'm not going to baby them, either.

Slam that magazine in, make sure it's seated. reload every time as if your life depended on that magazine being locked and the pistol functioning.

Yep, those EMP's aren't cheap. But if you happen to break it, Springfield will fix it for you.

Whether you bought if for CCW or a range toy, either way is fine with me. Just rest assured that 99% of the handguns made will take a lot more punishment than most users will ever give them. Now smack that magazine!
:D

Keep in mind also that every time you shoot a round, the gun will take more abuse than you could possibly do trying to insert a magazine to forcefully
