Need I point out that Pelosi and Hoyer are both rated F- by GOA?

New Dem majority leadership - GOA rating

Speaker Pelosi - F-
Majority Leader Hoyer - F-
Majority Whip Clyburn - F-

Current GOP leadership

Speaker Hastert - C
Majority Leader Boehner - A-
Majority Whip Blunt - A-

Kind of illustrates how maintaining a majority of the more gun friendly party for its own sake is a valid concern.

You're still going to defend the Republicans?

Wake-up call. They did it to themselves. They blew themselves up with greed, incompetence and not listening to the American people, who realized that "neocon" didn't mean "conservative", but instead "money-burning imperialistic-hubris ultra-liberal". Get angry at THEM. Even Boehner and Blunt have dirty hands with the scandals that got the Republicans shown the door, and Hastert likely covered for that scum Foley!

BTW, we have some strongly pro-gun moderate Dems on board, now, who might actually (gasp) introduce some new pro-gun legislation instead of just giving lip service to the 2A for five years and not doing anything new. Who knows?

As for the new leaders with the F's...whose responsibility is it for letting them get into a position of power? Who pi**ed off the American voters so much that they threw out all the current leaders?

That's who you should get mad at.

You're still going to defend the Republicans?

Where did he defend the Republicans?

Wake-up call. They did it to themselves.

True. But WE will pay the price. We always pay the price for the sins of the scum in DC.

However: Hoyer is a piece of good news, actually. The overwhelming rejection of Murtha by the Democrats is a signal that they aren't going to take their marching orders from Nancy Pelosi. This means that many of them could be willing to think and vote independently. That's important at the moment, for gun owners and libertarian types, because the senior Democrats are a bunch of old-line '60s-throwback socialists.

I'd taken that "importantance of maintaining a..." comment as defense. They went rotten, and the voters threw them out.

And we may pay the price...or not. I don't know yet. There were really a good lot of dems who are hardly leftist.

This guy sure doesn't look like a leftist elitist!

Jon Tester strongly believes in our Second Amendment rights. As a gun owner and custom butcher Jon made his living with a gun for 25 years. As a legislator Tester voted repeatedly to protect gun rights. In the United States Senate, Jon will stand up to anyone — Republican or Democrat — who wants to take away Montanans’ gun rights.

And there's Heath Shuler, who is not only strongly progun, but had this to say about illegal immigration!

We must control immigration and secure our borders. The lessons of September 11th clearly displayed the inability of our immigration policy to keep criminals and terrorists out of our country. We have millions of illegal immigrants in our country and our government has no idea who they are and if they pose a threat to us. Make no mistake about it; this is a National Security issue

Additionally, illegal immigration is imposing a huge financial burden on the American economy. Illegal immigration costs American taxpayers approximately $70 billion a year in financial assistance for welfare benefits, health care, education, and domestic crime-fighting. It is unfair to those who have come to our country legally to provide education, welfare, and health care benefits to people who have broken the law and come here illegally. Our priority must be to educate and employ our citizens.

Shuler sounds more Republican than the Republicans ever did, there! Did any of them ever come out and say anything that blunt and truthful about it?

okay, talk is cheap

Let's see how they vote.

I agree on the neo-con thing. I voted against my incumbent (R) Texas governor because of his out of control spending and lack of border enforcement. Among the two (I)s and the one (D), about 60% of those voting chose someone other than the incumbent...but, due to the fact that the protest vote was divided among three candidates, the incumbent prevailed :banghead:

Bush and his breed betrayed my trust, but at least they courted me.

Pelosi and her breed are courting the dark side. Can I (do you) expect a better result?

Maybe the Ostrich should be the symbol for both Parties.

This guy sure doesn't look like a leftist elitist!

No, he looks like Farva from Supertroopers.

FWIW, I don't understand all of the faith espoused in members here that things will be different with the dems this time. The Democrats have been advocating gun control since shortly after the Civil War. I have a hard time believing that they've suddenly had an epiphany and realized that, hey, that 2nd Amendment thing really does apply to individuals!

That's like expecting the Republicans to suddenly find a deep and abiding respect and love for the 4th Amendment.

Shuler might be okay, but he wasn't endorsed by NRA. He unseated an A+ rated Republican. Shuler also couldn't be bothered to answer a questionnaire from GOA, so he was unrated.

It was the only upset in the State (NC). Obviously, it was not about guns.

Some call the neoconservatives like Rumsfeld... "Marxist Right".
Funny thing is that some of them are apparently former Trotskyists ( a variant of communism for those unfamiliar with soviet history. Stalin had it shot in the USSR )..
Trotsky was really into it too. Advocate of world revolution..
(neocons - they seem to harbor a similar zeal for regime change)
He was the war commissar(most of the time I think) during the civil war after the October revolution.

Now we all know what a former CIA director said about socialism,
(that he who hasn't been a socialist when he was 20 hasn't got a heart, and those who remain socialists at 40 lack a brain. Not sure which one).

They claimed that a communist state cannot exist surrounded by capitalist countries, and revolution has to be exported...
(1919 and the aftermath of WWI was a pretty bleak time. Ze Germans saved it then, most theirs WWI veterans weren't buying into the whole communism things and were pretty good at killing people)

Mind you.. not all of them are up to bad things.. one Scottish lapsed-trotskyist is a pretty entertaining science fiction writer with a distinctly libertarian bent (as far as personal freedom, illegal substances and guns are concerned)....
OT but he has a Communist European Union in one book.. with the current flag with a large red star in its center.. ROTFL.

Bush and his breed betrayed my trust, but at least they courted me.
Isn't the expression "conned me" more accurate?

Wait, stop the presses!! I thought all the Democrats were supposed to do exactly as Pelosi said. Weren't they supposed to obey her blindly? I could have sworn I saw dozens of posts here saying that even the bluest and doggiest blue dog Democrat would toe the line and do Pelosi's bidding without question. Yet, she endorsed Murtha and they voted for Hoyer.

The mind boggles...

It still could be a bumpy ride, but I don't think the sky has fallen. Yet. I guess we'll see what shapes up in the next few months. :)

Either way, it's a great excuse to load up on a few more magazines.:D

Shuler might be okay, but he wasn't endorsed by NRA. He unseated an A+ rated Republican.

Don't forget, an NRA rating isn't necessarily indicative of a candidate's stand on guns... too frequently, it's an indication of which candidate they think is going to win, and they want to be seen as endorsing winners.

Yep, she put herself in a lose-lose situation and she lost. Duh.

I thought she was smart enough not to back Murtha and his truck load of baggage.

Apparently her old man didn't teach her as much as I thought - or as she thought it appears. It's a surprise to see the daughter of former Baltimore mayor Tommy D'Alessandro Jr. and sister of former mayor Tommy D'alessandro III stumble coming out of the gate.
