I've just become a Virginia resident (again) and really really want a GI-style 1911. Do I have to remain a resident for a certain period of time before I can make a purchase through a FFL?

You'd need a state-issued photo-ID (i.e. Driver's License) and something else with the same name and address on it, like your car registration or voter ID card or a utility bill.

http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms.shtm -- doesn't list what a VA resident/U.S. Citizen needs to purchase a firearm.

http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms_PurchaseEligibility.shtm -- this doesn't, either...

Nothing in either link about needing to be a resident for a certain period of time (unless you're a non-U.S. Citizen, then you'd have to prove 90-days residency).

Welcome (back) to VA!
