I opened a new bag of 100 Winchester Brass today, .22-250, which was purchased maybe 5-10 years ago, time gets away, but I am working up some loads and found this piece of brass in the first handful. Maybe I haven't bought enough new brass to see this, but it was surprising. What is more scary is the price listed on the bag.... ! :) (Maybe it's been longer than I thought... o_O)

Trim it back to get rid of the cut, then shoot the darned thing. Bullets won't know the difference.

Or trim then save it for the dummy round to set seater for the OAL you want.

Bart: Even with the split at the shoulder that goes thru would you load and shoot it? Not sure if the picture shows that much detail in this format, but the shoulder split goes all the way thru the neck. Good idea for my seater round though..! I will definitely use this round for that as I'm working up a load for a long range Varmint gun. Thanks!

No; that's dangerous.

Well then, I get three demerits forgetting about the split shoulder. Dummy round it.

That's my first mistake this month. Been weak in being right a few times.

I once got 100 Federal nickel plated 308 Win brass three of which had no flash hole in their primer pockets. Things happen.

Another time with three 20-round boxes of 7.62 NATO match ammo, half had no powder in them.

Just the one bad case out of 100? Is it smooth on the inside of the case where that burr is present on the neck/shoulder junction? I'd toss it in the recycling bin based on the split neck alone. Can you snag the inside of the case where that burr is present with a pick?

My neighbor ran into this last year. I had him contact Winchester and they requested the bad ones for examination. A couple of days later they sent him another bag of new brass to replace the 4 that were bad. So I would contact Winchester and let them make it good.
