i have a new fn super grade in 270 win. it is outstanding in every way. very accurate, looks great, and the fit/finish is superb. almost too pretty to hunt with, but i killed an elk and several deer with it in 2011 anyway. i'd say get one. i seriously doubt you will be disappointed.

TC id love to have a supergrade no one has one without ordering it just trying to see everyones thoughts

The only new one I have shot is my dads, 243 FW, love it, a new FW will be my next rifle for sure. Fit, finish, they seem to have it all. Now just need to decided what caliber!

I think they are better then any Model 70 has been for a lot of years.

I don't like the new enclosed lawyer trigger, because the original Model 70 trigger was very hard to improve upon.
It was every bit as reliable as a military 98 Mauser or 03 Springfield battle rifle trigger when full of dirt or ice.

But that is there, and this is not.

If I was in the market for a new rifle?
The new Model 70 would be right up there with the best of them in that price range.

That would probably be a big mistake.

Much as I liked the .264 Win-Mag?

It is an obsolete caliber, on the short list of being discontinued by the ammo companies.

You would be better served with a 7mm Rem-Mag.

It will do anything the .264 will do, only slightly better, or way better.

And that cartridge will be around and available at Walmart way longer then Bronc Obama.

I have a Featherweight 308, the wood is as good as any rifle I have ever handled, fit and finish is dang near perfection, and accuracy is on par with my Savages (aka really good) with 44.5gr of Varget and a 150gr Speer I can cover my groups with a quarter at 100yd, only my Tikka can best it at the range. Love the Pre-64 action and the trigger, I would highly recommend to anyone that wants a rifle that feels and looks as good as it shoots.

I have a 375H&H Safari Express and love it. The rifle is very accurate and the wood is better than some super grades I have seen. Just got lucky I guess.

But I will say this, have the action bedded by a good smith. The factory bedding is garbage and will annoy and frustrate the heck out of you if you don't. It may hold up for a while but it will fail. Ask me how I know.

these are really starting to appeal to me how are they quality wise and accuracy

I'm not blown away by the quality. For a couple of hundred dollars more you can buy a much better rifle i.e. a Kimber. I bought a Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather, a Kimber Montana and Kimber Talkeetna this year and the Kimbers are WAY better built with vastly more attention to detail. Add in that Kimber drills and taps the receivers for 8-40 screws and actually bothers to index the screw holes to the receiver so that rings require only the slightest bit of lapping (impressive for a production rifle), and it's a no brainer to me. I'll be buying a few more Kimbers before I'm done, specifically a Montana chambered in .308 Win but I have no desire to buy another Winchester.

Here's my "quality" Winchester. Notice the rough machining (galling) of the bolt race and the raised section of the race at the front end of the ejection port. The bolt "bangs" into the raised section when I work the action. Overall though I like the fit/feel of the stock and have no intention of parting with the rifle. I'll carefully file the defect in the action down a little, lap the crap out of the Talley rings to fix the misaligned receiver holes and mark it up to experience.

I just picked up an M70 Featherweight in 30-06 and it is one fine looking rifle. Very well put together and no mis-machined parts that I have noticed. The wood looks great and I am in the process of picking out a scope. Probably end up with the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40mm.

I've had 3 of them (still own 2)and they have been accurate and well made rifle.I think they are one of the best rifle in their price range.

+1

I bought three in 2009; a .243, .270 Featherweights and a .30-06 Sporter. Wood is amazing. Triggers on all three are amazing. Overall quality is superb. I can get less than quarter sized groups at 100 yards with little effort from a rest. I sold the .30-06 only because my.270 does everything I need it to. Buy one and go kill something with confidence.

I just purchased a Model 70 Featherweight stainless in .243 Win. It's a nice rifle and well made and I'm happy with it. However, I don't think it's any better then any other model 70 I've owned.

Also, I'm not impressed with the CRPF that everyone thinks is so great. Some think this is the greatest thing on earth, sorry I don't. Hope none of you mind if I keep my older model 70's.
