Just bought a new XD-9 from the local gun show the other day. Really nice gun and i have heard a lot about it. I got the ported barrel for the lessend recoil. Haven't shoot it yet, plan to take it out this weeknd. Anyway, anycomments on this gun as a home defense weapon, ammo to use, and comments on ported vs non ported.

The ported XDs are known to crack the slide where it is ported. Make sure you pay attention to these areas. Some people have complained about the out of control muzzle flash on these models. And you probably just missed the deadline to ensure your pistol has the new melonite coating.

Any XD made after April 1 has the Melonite slide. Call them with your serial number.

I don't think the ported XDs were ever intended for HD/SD. I think it was just a way to get more XDs on the competition line.

went to the range yesterday, put about 250 rds down range at 15 and 25 m. I like the pistol, it fits my grip perfectly and couldn't feel more comfortable. as for the ported, that thing feels like shooting a 22, no kick at all. I got a lot of good rapid fire quickly and accurately. might hender my night sight, but i can't see in the dark anyway.

I own both the non-ported XD9 Compact and Sub-Compact and I LOVE them! The sub is my daily CC weapon. I have a leather IWB holster and I enjoy carrying it. Both XDs have been great at the range in both accuracy and reliability. I can tell you that my Glock 22 (sold it) jammed more than either of my XDs and I always keep my weapons cleaned.
Bottom line, they were well worth my hard earned money.

Sad but funny in a way. Too bad he did not do the leg work BEFORE he purchased the pistol, so he would have been better informed on what the possible REAL problems of the pistol are.
But at least he knows what to expect now that he has it.

yeah the ney sayers say that but I have many accounts from people that actually own one and not just make coments because that is what they have heard. they have no issue with it.
quickly and accurately is th key, don't worry about the flash at night brother.again i am happy for you that you like it so much.
I have the ported model, too! Love it. I am keeping an eye on it for the reported cracked slide problem. I don't have more than a couple hundred rounds through it though. It is very accurate for me. Looks good and feels right. My brother-in-law has the non-ported but I haven't shot it yet to compare recoil. I can say the ported is definitely easy on recoil. Welcome to the club. Good gun.

It's not that bad of a deal. SA has bent over backwards for the people this has happened to. Most get a replacement slide and barrel, one guy even had them take the gun back and trade up to the new .45ACP. And if this happens to him, he'll have the new coating for sure.
Bright side to every train wreck I suppose. Shouldn't happen, but at least they are taking good care of those that do.

Ok found my fisrt problem went to academy before stopping off at the range and got a box of Blazer 115 g FMJ, at $5 a box, why not. went to the range and fired 2 mags. every other casing got cought in the ejection port. thought it might be the pistol, so i bought some heavier grained hollowpoints, fired a mag, no hang what so ever. So fired another mag of Blazer, snag evry other round again.
Question? can't afford hollow points everytime i go to the range cus i like to fire atleast 200 rds. So what is a good ammo that is cost effective for ranges, but hopefully won't snag

Try brass cased FMJ. I have shot factory 9mm WWB, Remington and Megtech (I think that was the brand) pretty sure that they were all 124 grain through my XD9 service. No problems yet.
I reload for my .45. I going to buy the 9mm dies soon.

CCI Blazer Rounds
I think your problem was the fact that you where shooting CCI Blazer rounds, the shells are made of aluminum and tend to have problems. The CCI Blazer Brass rounds are great and shoot very clean. I measured the bullets on my CCI Blazer rounds and they are .002-.003 larger that the CCI Blazer Brass and the Winchester rounds I have. This may be the problem.
I have 100 rounds of the aluminum stuff and I am reluctant to shoot them because I have not heard anything good about them except the price. Stick with the Blazer Brass and they are still pretty reasonably priced.

The problem is Blazer aluminum ammo. There are a lot of guns out there that hiccup on Blazer.
I shoot exclusively Speer ammo through my XD simply because it's more accurate through my XD. Everything else it eats just fine though. WWB, Federal, even Wolf. I've never tried Blazer through mine simply because I've had so many problems with Blazer in other pistols I avoid it like the plague.
