Well,

The day started out bad. I had to drive up to a customers site for a service call. The service call was simple just had to login to a computer to change a simple setting to get it to work again(10 minute fix :barf: ). The bad part was it was almost a 3 hour drive one way. On my way home I cought a radio ad for a gun shop in the northern Indiana area and since I was near by I made a detour on the way home.

Well looking at their wide selection of handguns I found a XD45 compact. It felt very good in my hand. So I busted out the plastic and brought it home. The price was 579 but I was able to get it for 560. I feel that I did ok on the price and am happy so far even know I was not looking to buy a 45acp.

I can't wait to get to the range tomorrow to test it out.

I did take it out to dinner tonight. The XDgear holster worked out ok but I need to get a quality holster.

Sub-Compact??? Must mean Compact. Here in MN they're $519. Don't have one but am considering.

I think I'm saving for a 1911 though. Let us know how it shoots!

When I move to Arizona I will know what it is like to purchase a firearm and walk out of the store with it.................that day! Haha, California and their stupid 10 day waiting period.

Anyways, congratulations on your purchase, the XD is quite the amazing little pistol and it's begun taking America by storm. The majority of people I know who have them (including myself XD 40) love them. They're truly a pleasure to shoot, just remember they're a six-o-clock aiming gun so unless you aim them per that aiming method its going to seem like they fire above everything you aim at, hehe. The only thing I dislike about the XD in general is the 6 pound trigger pull. A lot happens to my accuracy with trigger pulls that long and it shows as soon as my 1911 gets in my hand and I hit everything flawlessly.

Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, it really is a great little gun. Furthermore the .45 and .40 are the most sought after versions of it. Everyone loves a .45 and in a polymer frame gun why would you not?

Coincidentally to anyone who owns an XD 40, you can in fact purchase a .357 Sig barrel for it as well as a few magazines and you now have a completely different caliber weapon for a little over $200 and it only takes about 2 minutes to swap over. If you can field strip an XD, you can play with its calibers too.

Dom,

Thanks for the tip about 6oclock aiming. I read about that earlier today. It would of made me mad not knowing that before going to the range.

It was very nice to walk into the store, haggle price a bit, pickout ammo, talk to the local guy about gun stuff while fillinging out the forms and waiting for him to call it in. All taking about 30mins.

I am in the search for a belt/holster combo.

From what I understand if you have a xd40 you can buy the 357sig and 9mm barrels. my brother is looking at doing this with his xd40.

The do indeed hit 'high'. It's not really a problem I guess, but notable. It's odd, my XD.45 seems to hit with no hold over out to 80 yards or more. I think it's because with a 6 o clock hold, as the target gets farther out, it gets smaller, so you ARE actully holding higher than you would be at close range.

I picked it up at 21st century firearms in Bluffton. It was the only one they had.

I had the xd45 service and did not care for it too much. It just hung out n my safe mostly. I have had a better time shooting my Glock's. However i think i might give the compact a try. For the money and the size i think it might be a good buy. My only problem with the gun is it's signature back side safety that i am not thrilled about. I know that is what the xd is known for but i have never been able to get use to it. But if Glock does not start coming out with something new for the compact's i will have no choice. Hope you enjoy your new member friend.

I picked up an XD45C Tactical several weeks ago and absolutely love it. I still haven't gotten completely use to the trigger. ASAP I will probably be sending the gun back to Springfield to have them put the Carry Package on it which does a lot to smooth out and lighten the trigger. I will also have them put a set of night sights on it because the white dots can be hard to see in some light. I have a little under 500 rds through it and have not had a single problem, knock on wood. :D As soon as I can pick up some .45ACP dies I'll start reloading for the thing and then I'll really start putting bullets out of it. :D

Congrats on the purchase. I hope you enjoy your XD45 Compact as much as I do mine.

As far as holsters go, look at the usual suspects. The XD45 is reported to fit in holsters designed for the 40/9 models just fine.

I've got a Comp-Tac CTAC for mine and it's a good Kydex formed IWB holster, but a little uncomfortable if you don't have an undershirt between you and it. I'll probably check out a Crossbreed next. OWB you have more options, both in Kydex and leather.

well I took it to the range with the g/f yesterday. my local indoor range had free time. we spent almost 2 hours there. I spent most of my time loading the mags for the PX4. My g/f went throught about 230 rounds of 9mm. and loved it. She also shot up about 60 rounds of .38spl in my 66-7. She is torn between the beretta and S/W. She now understands why I go to the range.

But back to the XD45 compact.

my first 45 and I love it. I only put the target out to 15/20 foot. i was able to remove the bullseye from the target.

I put 160 rounds through it:
50 of WWB
100 of BB
10 cor-bon 185gr jhp +P

it never missed a beat.

My g/f got it to jam when she pulled the slide back to rack one in. I had to drop the mag and clear the jam. This only happened because she did not have enough strenght to pull the slid all the way back. She did not have any other problems. I kind of expected her to "limp wrist" but I was wrong.

I went and ordered comp-tac infidel with the tucker strut and belt clip.

No remote access. Bad.

Billing 6 hours labor for a 10 minute fix. :what: That's good.

Somebody is getting billed for the travel time, right?

So I busted out the plastic and brought it home

<sigh!>. That wouldn't happen in the People's State of Greater Chicagoland.

XD? I like my XD40 quite a bit.

From what I understand if you have a xd40 you can buy the 357sig and 9mm barrels.

You'd need to buy a 9mm conversion barrel, such as BarSto. The stock 9mm will not work in the .40S&W...the .357SiG will...

I got an XD 45 Compact a few months ago. I love it. So far it is as reliable as my older XD9 SC which has been flawless. Accurate too.
I have shot about 300 rds of FMJ's with no problems at all.
For SD ammo I tried some Winchester silver tip,Speer Gold Dots and Federal Hydro shoks. Had one FTE with the Federal HS--so I won't be using them in this gun.
For what it's worth--I talked to SA CS the other day to order more mags. I mentioned the FTE with the Federals and the CS person told me that they reccomend the Winchester Silver Tips. They seem to work the best in my other guns in other calibers too so that's the ones that will be loaded into my new XD 45 too

I abosolutely LOVE my XD9, you made a good purchase my friend!:D

I sometimes forget that it shoots a little high from the factory, and it pisses me off for the first few minutes at the range:cuss: :banghead:

lee n. field :

They do have remote access. The Computer was setup wrong. Someone did not rename the computer correctly so the tech center could not log in. It was a 120 mile drive one way. 10 minute fix. then a 140 mile drive home. I did make the detour to buy the XD.

I get to claim most of the miles. at .485cents per mile and all the driving I did this past week it paid for my XD and my first round of ammo.

I can see more XD in my safe in the future.

3 hours to drive 120 miles?:what:

How good is that carry package? A guy at work is always talking up the carry package even though he's never seen one or carried one. My pessimistic side says that they give it to you for free so how good could that be?

As for a good belt, check out Rafter S Gun Leather. It's about a 6 week wait but the belts are superb. I have black cowhide belts in 1.25" and 1.5". Wear them everyday. In fact, I look forward to wearing the belts. Yes, they're that good.:D

Congrats on the new XD-45 compact. Seems like everyone is buying either a XD-45 or a XD-45 compact these days (must be great pistols). I'm a new XD owner myself; however, my first time XD pistol I purchased about a week and a half ago is a 2004-2005 era XD-9 sub-compact (used like new condition at a local pawn shop). It has the older pre-Melonite finish, but I'm not too worried about it. I haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet (I can't wait). I just ordered a Comp-Tac Pro Undercover Kydex IWB holster for it. I hear that they shoot a little high with the factory sights. If I put a set of Meps on it, will I still need to shoot at the 6 o'clock hold position, or will the POA be dead-on then?

Ed:

not to go off topic that much. But yes My drive was close to 3 hours just to go 120 miles. I did have to stop for gas on the way. I am unlucky when it comes to going places. I do not speed and my routes are direct but I am limited to roads that are posted 55mph that also go through small towns where the speed drops to 25~40mph. It really sucks.

The carry pack that came with my XD, well it was free. The belt holster rides a little low and the butt of the gun sticks out from my side. I got lucky I had a nice vest to wear the other night. All my other shirts don't go low enough to cover the muzzle. with a IWB holster I should be able to hide it well.

The mag holder is a little odd. Why have a holder for two extra mag when the gun only comes with one extra mag.

I guess that's marketings way of getting you to buy another mag!:neener:

Stinks about the speed limits!:cuss:
