I have finially decided to buy my first AR. I am getting ready to order a Rock River Entry Tactical model but I have a question. You have a choice of a flat top, a detachable tactical carry handle, EO tech dominator mount, or a standard A3 carry handle. What are the pros/cons of each one of these to help me decide which to get? Thanks for any info.

If you get the "double" flat top option, removable front and rear sights, you can have any configuration you want. If you have only the rear removable, you may or may not be annoyed by the standard front sight if you go with a scope or dot type sight. I like the double flat top with an Aimpoint and flip up BUIS myself.

If you are considering optics in the future and irons now, get the flat-top with detachable handle. If you only plan on using only optics, get the flat-top and clamp on a scope or dot, fine tune it later. If you're only considering irons, get the fixed carry handle. I can't see irons anymore. I use a flat-top with a Meopta scope mounted with Larue Tactical QD mount. I use an Eotech mounted directly on the flat-top if I remove the scope.

If you have any planes for optics, get a flat top upper (A3). If you will be using iron to start with, get the standard detachable carry handle or actually, the better plan might be to skip the carry handle and use the money you save to buy a BUIS and start off with that.
