Best way to mount an EOTech

Please help me decide how to mount my EOTech 512.

I'm thinking my best option is a RRA Dominator mount, but this is only because I called my gun shop and I can trade my RRA "tactical carry handle" + $20 to get a new Dominator mount.

Is the Dominator rock-solid? Are there better options, or is the Dominator a good way to go in my situation?

I would mount the Eotech directly to the upper reciever and get a flip up rear sight.

I am told by everyone I talk to who owns one that you slap it straight onto the rail and the dot will co-witness your front sight post.

I would mount the EOTech on a LaRue mount and stick a Troy BUIS behind it. I have mounted EOTechs directly on the rail before. For me the 1/4" raise makes a big difference in head position and also that damn front sight is not in my way with the LaRue. With the Dominator the rear sight will be in the way of your EOTech sight picture.

In my opinion this is the ONLY way to mount an EoTech.

You still get through the window co-witness but it's in the lower third of the glass window so even if you like to leave the BUIS up and in place they don't get in the way of using the optic.

That is incorrect. Because the Eotech is a single plane sight it will NOT always line up with the front post.
You get in the habit of lining the dot up with the front post and you defeat the purpose of a single plane sight anyway.
Might as well skip the optic and use irons.

I prefer the absolute cowitness myself, but I can understand why someone would want a lower third cowitness too. I just mounted mine directly to the receiver and put an ARMS #40 behind it, good 'nuff for me.

I also plan on using the Larue mount with the Larue fixed BUIS.

Straight onto the rail. Omit the BUIS. If the Eotech light quits, the Eotech becomes something of a giant ghost ring for the front sight. Works pretty well, actually.

Well, I went with the Dominator EOTech mount just because it was the cheapest option (in my situation) and I like the idea of having the optic centered a little above the irons. I plan on using the 1 MOA dot to pick off coyotes at 100 - 200 yards.

Probably the subject of a different thread, but along with getting my EOTech all mounted up on my AR, I also picked up a Kobra red dot for my Saiga .223. I like the Kobra, but I HATE the cheek wield. It sits waaaay too high for the sporter stock. You almost can't place your cheek on the stock at all?! Darn it. Not sure what to do. Maybe I'll return the Kobra and buy another case of .223...

I sort of had the same problem trying to mount a Bushnell Holosight to my Saiga. I bought a low-mount Weaver adapter and the thing sat up so high I couldn't get my cheek on the stock either.

I could have sprung another $100 to try an Ultimak mount but from the pictures you still can't co-witness with the iron sights so I'm just going to sell the sight and stick with irons. The AK just seems more right using iron sights anyway.

On my Armalite the front sight is on a rail also. However, I have an RRA mount. The red dot is normally just above the rear iron sight. It helps if you lift your head a little higher than normal. The main thing I don't like about it is I couldn't mount a scope instead as it is not a full rail.
