Hi all. I am a true newbie to handguns (I don't even own one yet). A co-worker mentioned selling a Ruger GP 100 ss 4". He said that is in in great condition, and that he has owned it for a few years. It sounds like it has had less than 1000 rounds fired. I would like some estimates on what would be a fair price.

I did a quick browse through GB and Guns america for completed auctions. I would say offer $400.00. There is a bunch on both web sites that listed for $500+ that did not sell.

Peyton speaks the truth. I looked at Gunbroker too and saw similar stuff priced 550ish with 0 bids.

Lots of 4" .357 revolvers in the $400-450 range at gun/knife shows in my area. Sounds like a good choice for a first handgun, I own a 4" .357 s&w (my first handgun) and cant say I've had the chance to use a ruger revolver but they seem highly regarded and doubt you'll be disappointed.

If my co-worker and I can't come to an agreement, I will still buy a 357 mag. I like the fact that they shot 38 special ammo. Less kick, less money, and good to learn with.

Depending on condition, 400 isn't unreasonable. However, I'm not sure what prices are in y our local area.

I have 2 ruger 357 revolvers, both Security Sixes. (the 357 ruger made before the gp100) that I got for a good bit less, but they were 'well used' to say the least.

A modern, well cared for 357 mag in a 4 in here would have no trouble selling for 350 I would think.

I can't find any used in my town (other than my co-workers). I have seen several online in the $300-$350 price range, however after you add the shipping and fees that come with the having it shipped to a local dealer ($30-$40) plus bachground and taxes, I am looking at $400-$450. I can get the same gun for around $550 brand spanking new (all fees and taxes included). Unless my co-worker says he will take $350-$400 for his used gun, I will go with a new Ruger GP 100.

Google up j&g sales and buy one of the S&W model 64's they have listed. Oh, I did it for you.
