Hello I'm loading 32 ACP 71 gr FMJ with win 231 at 2.4 gr. The min OAL calls for 0.940 but will not fit in the mag, loading for keltec p-32 went to 0.930 and they fit in the mag by a hair. Help what am I doing right or wrong? Your help as usual is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to THR

First, I must say I have not loaded for the .32 Auto, but I do have a lot of load experience in several auto calibers. That said, my advise, assuming your calipers are OK, would be to load them at .925 and adjust the powder down .1 grain to 2.3 Grains to start since 2.5 is max by Winchestor 2006 free manual...:)

Anyone out there who loads .32 auto? Any Kel-Tec owners who do? Lets help him out here.

i just checked it out. by reducing the oal from .940 to .930 then using 2.4g of win 231. this will raise case pressure a slight bit. however you are using the starting load grn. so for that i would not even worry about it. a lot of times we all try to go with book specs on case max length however there are a few rules to consider.
1. every gun or firearm is going to have a different chamber length.
2. with this a lot of people try to find there guns overall chamber lenght then subtract a little from that. It is easier on a rifle than a pistol. here is how we do it on a rifle
3. take a case. (once fired works best.) next size it only. then slightly ream out the neck. (making the neck a little looser). then seat a bullet about .30 over the case overall length. then chamber the round. (when you chamber the round the gun will seat the bullet in until it fits tightly within the chamber.) now measure the col then subtract about 5-10 thousands to get a good overall lenght to use for all of your rounds.

Now for your gun book specs show .940 as minimum overall length. That is not always true and to top it off if you were to take a caliper with you and go to you local gun shop do the following. Ask for the same kind of round. then do a measurement on the col. you will find the from the factory they are usually a lot less than min overall length.

Here is another example for my firearm. 30-30 using 150grn bullet. Lee specifies the min oal is 2.55. However i have a box of remington 150grn factory made ammo. the minimum oal measure on all of the bullets is 2.50 avg

Hello and thanks again for trying to help me out, Should I drop a grain to 2.3 with a oal of 0925 or would I be safe with 2.4 gr at oal of 0930? Once again folks thanks for your response.

I would try a few at .925 O.A.L. with 2.3 Grs. W231 and see how they do, then bump it to 2.4 if all seems well and try a few of those. You may even be able to go to 2.5 without a problem. It's a little case and pressures will rise quickly. :)

Thanks Walkalong for getting back with me and giving me the advice that I needed. I will try them and .925 and 2.3 grains and then bump it up if everything is fine. Thanks to the other advice and I knew I could count on you folks.:)
