hello! I was just got a pump action 30 ought 6 with two magazines, however, one magazine says .270 and one says .280.
I have been told that I can use either one in a 30-06 as long as I use the correct rounds. Also, the mags apear to be for a semi-auto cuz the action stays locked open when the mags are empty.

I'm really a novice so any info would be helpful! thanks!

taz :)

If the mags have the lever on bottom for the bolt hold open feature then YES they were originally semiauto mags. But they'll work just fine in the pump action as well.

270, 280 30-06 and 35 Whelen remington pumps and autoloaders all use the same magazine disregard what's written on the mags.

Just make certain you only use ammunition that matches what's stamped on the barrel

great! thanks so much for the quick info! that actually brings me to another question. The amo just says .30 on the box I think, not 30-06. that should be suitable though, yes?

thanks again,

taz

You need to look on your firearm. Look on the barrel.

If you cannot determine which kind of ammo your rifle takes, you need to take it to a dealer or have someone who knows what they are doing take a look at it.

Just because the ammo "just says .30" does NOT mean it's ok to shoot in a 30-06.

NO not suitable at all!

30-30
30-06
30-40
30br
30 mauser
30 remington
30-03

None of these are the same. If it doesn't match what's stamped on the bbl VERBATIM then don't chance it.

hmm, well the ammo box says
verbatim:

"BALL Caliber .30 M2"

and the barrel says:

"30-06 SPRG Remington Gamesmaster 760"

perfect, this forum is great.

so to summerize:
A .270 or .280 clip for a semi-auto loaded with caliber .30 M2 rounds should work fine in a 30-06 pump-action rifle...

thanks for all the help guys! sorry to be so particular and specific but I just want to be sure I dont use the wrong rounds and damage the rifle or myself :)

thanks again, taz :)
