Ok, so I ditched the non chrome lined idea. I will be buying either a Stag model 1 or 2 or a Bushmaster patolmans carbine. All specs are basically the same except the bushy is 4150 vs 4140 Stag. What is the warranty like on the Bushmaster? How is the quality on the new Bushmasters now that their Remington owned? I have owned a Stag recently and would trust my life to them.

I'd trust a non chromed Del-Ton over either of those. Remember, the M1 served in Japan, Korea, and it was not chromed.

Moving under the Remington banner hasn't exactly been a huge plus for anyone else that's done it. Bushmaster already had a pretty sketchy reputation, I wouldn't think this move bodes well.
I've always heard good stuff about Stag, though.
Since you're not mentioning the typical upper-tier brands like Colt, DD,etc, I assume you're on something of a budget? From everything i've seen, heard, and personally experienced, I don't think you can go wrong with a S&W Sport.

I would not worry about a chrome lined barrel if they use a nitriding, melonite, or QPQ process instead. I doubt the wear difference will be noticeable in a semi automatic rifle. You won't be doing full auto mag dumps. I would not pay an extra $100 just for a model with a chrome lined barrel.

Wasn't Stag shut down or something by the ATF?

In any event, I'd second the get a S&W MP-15 Sport II advice.

Stag is up and running again. I used to own a model 3 and will probably be getting another Stag. I feel like they are better than some of the others mentioned, but was curious about new offerings from Bushmaster.

CEO Mark Malkowski has been fined and prohibited from ever being involved in firearms manufacture again. Stag has paid a fine and it's license is good so the business can be sold to another owner who hopefully will do a better job with the record keeping.

And I was so hoping my Stag Arms plastic shopping bags would become collectors items. :D

About a month ago Stag was purchased by White Wolf Capital LLC. This private equity firm also owns Aero Precision.
