Next cheapest semiauto after SKS?

Not counting .22's, I would say something like the low-cap Saiga's or even the low-cap Romanian WASR's.

You can geta SKS if the grenade launcher and bayonet are removed. Or are you just looking for a cheaper (moneywise) rifle?

I think one of the Ruger Carbines is the next one up in CA. Theres the PC-9 in 9mm, PC-4 in .40 and then the ole Mini-14.

i think ur outta luck for under 150 bucks. . . .

if your willing to try a bolt, cmp and other places have rifles for under 90 bucks.

as for teh su-16, bam if you can tell me where to get one that cheap, id be very much in your debt :)

im not particularly familiar with kalifornistan (jk :neener: ) law, but anything under the price of a new sks would be tough.

if you up the budget a touch, your into the ak, wasr, type rifle, but you'll need to make sure they have no bayonet lug or flash supressor, because if i remember correctly your allowed only one assualt rifle quality on your weapon, and a detachable mag would take that up.

if its quality your concerned with about the sks, i refer you to this site:
http://www.surplusrifle.com/sks/index.asp

great resource for the sks and all sorts of military arms. some of which may tickle your fancy

hope some of this rant helps

trick

Everything I listed I've seen for $400-$500. WildAlaska was selling Su-16's for about $430-$440, IIRC. Kenshin was asking for CA semi-auto rifles that cost a bit more than SKS's ($150-$200), so I listed a few. Looks like the SU-16b's piqued his interest.

You can occasionally find decent deals on Mini14's, if you don't wanna go down the SU16 road.

Alas, any firearm designed by a Russian guy whose name starts with a "K" is automatically defined as an "assault weapon" under California law, even if it has zero "assault weapon" features. The genetic fallacy meets the police power of the state...

Most gunshops have a used rifle section, pawn shops put some good deals out also sometimes. Just find something that you like and put it on lay a way.....buy cheap and your going to have problems later then you'll be :banghead: and :cuss:

If you live in CA and wish to buy semi-auto rifle, your choices are very limited, especially in the low price range.

If outside of CA, you have a ton of cool choices from Kel-Tec, Saiga, Highpiont, etc.

Personlly I would just get an SKS. Its reliable, accurate, cheap etc.

The next step up would be some sort of saiga, but those arent legal in CA, as far as I can tell, since they are kalashnikov pattern guns, technically.

Surplus garand maybe? Those are likely to be legal and it would be a lot more powerful.

Garands are great rifles! And legal in CA, last I heard....
But, not super cheap, probably running $400 and change...

 What? No CETME enthusiasts here? Best deal on a full-power MBR for less than three bills!
I've had mine for two years now, shot about 600 rounds through her, zero problems except for one bad magazine (thirty rounder from Auction Arms vendor), excellent accuracy and totally reliable.
1.5" at 100 yards with a scope and the ammo it likes. And with the Century "Muzzle Blast Enhancer" on it, other shooters take notice!

Should TSHTF, I hit the outback with my "Spanish Lady". ;)

EAA Saiga 7.62X39 and .223 and Highpoint 9mm carbines.
We sell Highpoints for 179.00 and and Saigas for 189.00-199.00 on sale.

I tried to take advantage of the CDNN deal a while back. CDNN will not ship any "semi auto defensive" weapons to CA. They don't want to deal with the hassle. It is a bummer. :(

After the SKS, the CMP Garand is the cheapest.

What hassle?

They're chicken if you ask me.

Cdnn has shipped has shipped semi autos to cali for me in the past. Two handguns to be exact. Chuck what was it they wouldn't ship? Was it cali legal? I think the problem lies with the stupid cali laws not the companies. It's like the handgun list and trying to make sure the exact gun the company is selling is on the list so they don't get in trouble. They probably get tired of dealing with the hassle of trying to keep up with what's legal. Why should they bother if they can sell their firearms elsewhere trouble free? Mark
