Next Gun? You Decide.

I've done the conversion kit thing and have concluded I'd rather just have a second pistol in the additional caliber. If'n you want to add .22LR capability to your handgun collection, I'd buy a .22 semi-auto rather than a conversion kit. Swapping slides/barrels sounds cool, but in reality, much easier and I suspect cost effective over the long run to just buy another pistol. Buy a CZ .22, or a Browning Buckmark, or a Ruger ... any of which will give you cheap trigger time with a versatile cartridge.

That said, I'd really recommend a long gun as a second gun. You didn't start with a .22 handgun, so I'd not start with a .22 rifle either. Much as I like my now heavily modified 10/22, I think an intermediate-cartridge scoped bolt action rifle would be my second addition. Remington, Tikka, or Savage in anything between .223 and .308. But that's me -- I like bolt action rifles. Indeed, if you were to decide on a .22LR rifle as your second addition, I'd still recommend a nice bolt action over a 10/22 ... probably one of the CZ 452s.

.22 rifle, with iron sights or peeps. You can move up to a scope later (maybe for your next rifle). Lots of good choices available; I like my Savage bolt with the Williams FP globe sights, but since you've already chosen CZ for your pistol, well . . . (hint, hint).

Okay, it would appear that a .22 of some sort is in my future. Now the question is: handgun vs rifle.... Mmmmm this is going to be a toughie. I'm thinking rifle since I don't have one yet. Perhaps some sort of "tactical" .22 rip off would be fun. M-4's and the like.

The CZ Kadet is $689 while the Kadet kit is $429 MSRP according to the web site. You could get it for less from your local gun seller.
Angus has the Kadet kit for $381.64 and the Kadet pistol for $603.20. I'd definitely go for the kit.

Since your first gun is a handgun I feel that you should make the second gun something similar, but in .22lr caliber. Look at guns like a Beretta Neo, Ruger mark 2, Walther P22 or a Sig Mosquito. No matter what I'm shooting, I always run out of ammo before I'm ready to go home, ammo is expensive. If you use an indoor range like I do, they also cost money to use. Since you've already paid for the range time, the cheap .22 ammo will enable you to stay and get your moneys woth. Not to mention that the more you shoot, the better you get.

Hi-point is not as bad as it sounds, I just bought a 995ts at cabellas for 240.00 out the door, and its a good shooter for a cheap plinking gun.......thats my 2cents...

Letting someone else pick your next firearm is like letting a stranger pick your wife, it just ain't right. :D

I would frequent the pawn shops around you. Most .22s are great pass alongs, meaning they rarely wear out. Not only that but you dont usually have to pay what they have it tagged for. Bargain with them a good Mod 60 marlin .22lr can be had for about $70-$80. A used .22 Ruger or Buckmark can be had for around $200.

I'd recommend a CZ =.22lr Kadet upper or a full Kadet pistol, depending upon how you want to spend your money.

If you don't want to go with a .22 pistol then look at a .22lr rifle. You could get the Marlin 60 or the Ruger 10/22 OR you could play at staying within the CZ brand and get one of their fine .22lr rifles.
