Personally, I'd like to hand Ronnie Barrett a big pile of cash in exchange, but unless I win the lottery, that ain't happening anytime soon. On a more realistic level, I want a 3 inch N-frame S&W, used but in good shape. .357, .44 Sp., or .44 Mag. My target is the special. I'd like one of those monster .500 S&W mags, too (in the short barrel
), but I'm still on the wrong side of the counter from them. A dang shame. In any case, I'm six months away from my next gun. Kid's in college. What can I say?
Oh, shucks! You want to know about your purchase?
You could do worse than an AR for a first rifle, but I'd get a decent .22lr and shoot it some, unless you've shot rifles before, enough to skip this step. Lots of fun, very instructive when it comes to laying down serious cash in a bigger caliber, and everyone needs one anyway. Lots of good, accurate bolts and semi's out there. Wal-Mart always has some good deals on several brands. You can slip one of those in and still get an AR, if you shop around for the AR. If you have a good gun store around, they can be competitive, on the better-grade 22's that Wally World doesn't carry.
