Yeah, another help me decide thread . . . sorry. Looking for my next take home toy. I'm trying to hold myself back and not take ALL my pay in guns. But with the way things are selling and the possibilities it’s got me really going. I have the opportunity to get a New Rock River AR entry tactical or a M1 grand that is mint. I like the capacity of the AR and possible accessories. It will be harder to get another one since most of the manufactures are running low or out at this point. I like the M1 for it history, aesthetics, and larger caliber. I enjoy reloading and bench shooting and think the M1 would be a lot of fun. I’m already setup to reload 30-06 besides. Hmmmmm, decisions decisions.

i say get the ar, but i am kinda partial to em, as well they are seen to be even more evil than most rifles by th egun grabbers, and anti's. i would get the ar now, the
m1 later.

M1s will only be around for so much longer before demand forces prices though the roof (look at history of Mil-surp guns). ARs, heck theres even talk of ruger making one, so supply is incredible and demand is to the point that a good supply will make it past any AWB that BO gets so id say the M1. After all its only the greatest fighting tool ever designed.

Very different creatures. I guess figure out what you plan to do with it and go with the one that best suits your uses.

A mint M1 is not just a high-powered, quality marksman's rifle, it's an investment.

As others have said, they are two very different guns with different pros and cons. But IMHO, there's no beating a classic.

Given the choice I would have a really hard time passing up a Mint Garand. Course the AR you could actually shoot....

Both, you must have both!!
I smell a WIN. All things aside I'd love nothing more than to have both. I have been working ways over and over in my head so that this maybe possible. Even though I'm already in a small (ahem) financial gun hole. Maybe if my boss man is so cool he hold the other one for me. (maybe he's watching right now). Another thing to consider is ammo. Being as paranoid as I am about ammo availability I will have to have a sufficient supply.

I think the M1's are very attractive with good wood on them. AR's are in current production, whereas a mint condition M1 isn't completely unheard of, but certainly less common than a mint condition AR.
