So I've got a P226 and P229 that I'm more than happy with. I'm looking to go with a more concealable .40 and have considered the P239. I don't have a local P239 to look at so I was wondering how much smaller/thinner it was than the P229. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. Also open to other suggestions. I want something close to the size and ergonomics of my PF-9 in .40 cal and with Sig reliability.

As far as I know, Sig doesn't really do the thin thing. The 239 is probably the thinnest, and I never thought it was uncomfortably small, albeit a bit funny looking.

Your other option is a 220 Carry -- it's single stack and shorter than the normal 220, but again, Sig generally doesn't make thin guns. The SAS version has a carry melt. The 220 Compact has a shorter grip (too short for my taste).

You could also look at the 229 E2. I've never had the opportunity to handle one, but their website says it has a "reduced grip circumference."

If you're willing to spend the kind of money that Sig charges, and you want a small/thin .40, you might consider a Springfield EMP. Not dissimilar in size from your Kel-Tec, but whether it's as reliable as a Sig may be for another thread. I would trust it for a carry weapon. I'll leave it at that.

The only other pistol I can think of that is reliable and resembles the PF-9's size and shape is the S&W 3913. Like your Sigs, it's DA/SA and I think comes in .40.

The P239 is still a rather thin gun when compared to the chunkier P229. Definitely thin enough to IWB concealed carry comfortably if you have a decent gun belt and holster.

Except for a small area at the rear left of the pistol (where the control levers are located), it has a pretty sleek profile.

With that said, have you considered another brand? I own an amazing non-railed CPO P229 and love it, but I prefer carrying my P2000sk. Sig Sauer makes a fine handgun (or used to...), but I still think H&K makes a better handgun overall when you look at the entire product line and the historically consistent quality control. JMHO.

Slide wise the P239 is as wide as the P229, frame wise a lot thinner. MY first SIG was the P239 I now own 6, but my daily carry weapons in order of preference CZ PCR, SIG P238, SIG P232. You really cannot go wrong with the P239.

The Walther PPS was designed for an exceptionally thin profile.
