NFA M-2 Carbine or Thompson

I'm interested in the possibility of a legal M-2 Carbine or Thompson, a decent shooter, not a collector grade or rare museum piece...naturally at a reasonable price. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Or, ask your local dealer if he is Class 3 or knows someone that is. They should then have some ideas for you.

And, if you've made it this far, you presumably live in a state that allows it?

Well, I don't know how much is "reasonable," price-wise, but there is a pretty significant difference between the two guns you've mentioned. M2 carbines can be had for $6,000 to $7000, whereas Thompsons have skyrocketed over the last two years to the point where guns made by Auto Ordnance in the 70s and early 80s (least desireable from a collector standpoint) will run from $13,000 to $15,000, WWII era guns will cost $20,000 and up, and original Colt guns will be from $30,000 up to "how much do you have?" depending on how original and documented a gun is.

I think you can still find registered M2 trigger groups/parts kits for under five grand, but I'm not sure. Hook it up to a barreled action and M2 stock, and you're off for less than a pure M2.

Thompsons are going to run you more than a new car.

I haven't seen any form of M2 (gun or trigger pack) for less than $5000 for a few years now.

Just checked, there's a transferable M2 group listed on the subguns classifieds for $4895. Which is over five grand with the tax, but there you are...

I'm in Colorado which allows such things...and already have an M-1, if the gunsmith ever gets done with the barrel swap and new bolt.
