I want to buy a Rossi Ranch Hand in 357, and put a rifle buttstock on it. Can anyone give me info on what the Government wants me to do before hand? At this point, I have not purchased anything. I emailed BATFE, but no answer yet...

Buy a NFA tax stamp for $200, wait many months for it to come back, engrave the gun with various required info (name, location etc) and then add the stock.

I would say buy the pistol, take that serial number and put it on your form 1. Figure out which stock you would put on it. Use that to search for what your overall length would be so you could include that on your form. Send your check, completed form 1 and wait.....for a while.

Thread the ranch hand, screw on buffer tube and add sig SB15 "brace". Done. And its tactical.

Seriously though, its goes to show how stupid these laws are that you can have an item like the SB15 but a regular stock takes over a year of waiting for permission.

I'm liking the 16 inch carbine more and more...

I appreciate the info guys.

It's more like an 8-10 month wait than 15+ right now.
How recent is your last stamp? I have 3 Form 1s submitted 2/25 that went first pending 4/30 and second pending 9/10. Recent (pre-slowdown) approvals are taking 70-90 days from second pending to approved and as long as 3 weeks to be received after that. Back in June they were quoting me 9 months from pending date!
