Just rec'd my NIB AMT Automag V .50AE the other day. I haven't been able to shoot it yet but I wanted to show it off. It's in the original case with all of the paperwork, etc, number 409 of an intended run of 3000 though I've read only around 2000 were actually built in 1993-94. Soon as the weather allows I'm going to put some rounds through it, should be interesting - a 300gr JHP at 1475fps at the muzzle!!! What do you think?

Here it is with my SW1911 9mm Pro to give some perspective on it's size-

And here's a 300gr .50 Action Express cartridge posing with a 230gr .45ACP-

Looks good, but also looks a lot lighter than my Desert Eagle XIX 50AE. Post back after you have shot it and relay the felt recoil.

Yeah, it's right at 3lbs with an empty mag, hopefully the ports help!
If you close at the orange hang tag in the first pic, it warns that the recoil may be "more substantial" than you're used to and to use two hands when firing!

What do I think? What were you thinking? - just kidding. That is an unusual piece of history there. Will the recoil be stout, sure, but if you get a proper grip I don't think it will be as bad as some folks might think. Folks keep telling me .357 LCR is insane and they wouldn't shoot it - not a biggie, so I say head out and have some fun.

How does it feel in the hand? That is a pretty wide stock, can you find a comfy & secure hold? What about the balance?

Number of rounds?

If you don't report back, could you have your next of kin do it? :)

Surprisingly it's pretty comfortable in the hand, it's muzzle heavy (thankfully) but balances okay, it'll probably be better loaded. The mag holds 5rds but they're big and heavy so I think it will settle in my hand better. The front and backstraps are smooth, I don't know if that'll work against it or not.

I've shot my friend's S&W M&P 360 .357mag and my custom 9x23 S&W 360J with full house loads so it'll be interesting to see how the recoil compares. The daughter is bringing her boyfirend over for dinner this evening, he likes guns, maybe I'll let him shoot it first!

Eh, I don't think it will be that bad. Semi-autos handle recoil better than revolvers. It'll probably feel like firing a stout .44mag load out of, say, a model 29 smith, which really isn't THAT bad. I doubt you'll want to put a couple hundred rounds through it at a time, but you probably won't mind a few mags per range trip.

Please post up once you fire it and let us know how it went :D

^ this cant compare with the desert eagle for recoil...the DE uses gas to chamber rounds, the automag uses recoil...the automag will always have less recoil than the DE..

Wow I'd love to see a side by side comparison between that and a Desert Eagle .50ae. Do they make that in .44 mag as well? Anyway great looking piece you got there!

Yeah the DE is a heavy brute for a reason, I have my XIX 50 AE 10" barrel, Mag-na-ported, it helped...

Weight Mark VII
1,766 g (3.9 lb) (.357 MAGNUM)
1,897 g (4.2 lb) (.44 MAGNUM)
Mark XIX
1,998.6 g (4.4 lb)

Length Mark VII
10.6 in (269.2 mm) (6in barrel)
Mark XIX
10.75 in (273.1 mm) (6in barrel)
14.75 in (374.7 mm) (10in barrel)

I like it a lot...

Your new weapon is a nice one, hope you enjoy shooting it, reloading is needed to keep the cost down...

I thought the point of the gas-feed thingie was to reduce recoil

Cool gun, thats a smokin' round!

The point of the gas thingie/y is to unlock the locking lugs and get it moving something plain blow back will not do...The bolt is similar to an AR and we know they use gas also, it is designed into your military rifles for a long time...

Shooting a copper clad or plated bullet is a needed item in the DE (if not the port gets clogged with lead and you have a problem) slight amount of lead on tip is ok, base of bullet must be covered...

The OP's pistol can shoot lead and have no problems...

I am looking for a good report on his shooting it and maybe some pictures would be nice, lots of pictures out there for the DE...

My favorite...Weak person vs powerful DE recoil:eek:
