I just received my NIB BLR Lightweight in 243. Beautiful rifle and I am very excited to get it out to the range this weekend.

I am confused about one thing though, I bought the rifle understanding that studs for a sling were pre-drilled per Browning's website. This doesn't seem to be the case on my rifle.

I was wondering if anyone had purchased this rifle recently and has the studs on it or if Browning's website is just inaccurate.

I can tell you my year-old BLR 308 lightweight stainless with pistol grip came with sling studs.

Looking at Browning's website, some of the BLR's have studs, some don't.

If I had to guess at the scheme, pistol grip stocks have 'em, straight stocks don't.

You are most likely correct and it will not be a big deal to take care of. The pictures on their website show my rifle, which is the straight stock non take down model, as I received it. But the picture contradicts the written description, which is why I asked for anyone's experience.

Thanks for any responses.

Let me add to your excitement; you are going to love shooting that BLR.

When I bought mine I had not even shot it yet and, based on another experience with .308, had real doubts about keeping the BLR. I actually put it up for sale twice, had seller's remorse both times and pulled the ads.

Then a friend talked some sense into me, he insisted I go shoot the rifle.

I did. It's now my favorite rifle, period.

It sits in the safe right next to my favorite (and only) shotgun, a Browning Citori featherlight chambered for 28 gauge.

You sure don't hear or read many negative things about them.

I justified the rifle as a lighter shooting range gun, varmint gun and 2nd deer gun. I will figure out something on the sling issue, maybe one of those that don't require studs at all.

My more pressing issue right now is making a decision on the scope that I will be putting on it, probably a 2-7x32

I know it sound crazy but I have a Nikon M-223 2.5-10x40 Laser IRT scope on mine. Even though the scope says it's designed for 223, Nikon's SpotOn software lets me calibrate the BDC reticle for 308 as well. The glass is excellent. It's a little heavier because of the laser rangefinder but overall the combination suits me just fine.

Good luck with your scope search.
