NIB gun shortcomings are unacceptable

Had a 96D that would throw metal shavings back at you when fired. (forget if they were brass or copper, but I sure got a lot of them in my hair and face) It was sent back via the dealer I got it from and worked fine when it returned.

Even though there are CNC machinery, guns still require tolerances greater than most high school dropouts can muster by pushing a button on a computerized machine.

It still takes skill and/or attention to detail to make a lot of products, and that is why they don't have the same quality as they used to... even if the materials and equipment have improved dramatically. Often the designs have been modified to remove skilled labor from the equation - to the detriment of the reliability and refined operation of the final product.

so much for the customer getting quality as someone has already stated . years ago when the 10mm first came out i ordered a colt, delta elite first trip to the range it would not eject .i sent it back to colt and waited for 6 weeks for its return ,second trip to range broken ejector, second trip to colt. this time the wait was only 4 weeks third trip to range the hammer broke at round 44 ,so back to colt it went,at three weeks got a call from colt saying the slide was manufactured wrong and would be replaced. i finally got the gun back after 8 weeks so back to the range where at round 112 hammer broke again, so this time i ordered one from mccormic, that hammer lasted for 8000 rounds but the rest of the gun was replaced 1 part at a time .when i called colt about the hammer to tell them they had a problem i was told in effect i was an idiot and was abusing the product so i dont abuse any of there products any more.::fire:

When looking at a new Kahr P40 last week, I found the slide would not close fully without being pushed forward. No ammo in gun just letting it close with the slide release. Pretty sad for a 600+ dollar gun.

Perhaps,

These kind of things have always happend to an extend, but today's ease of communication allows us to tell thousands of people at once. So it seems like there is more of it going on today. or perhaps makers are sloppier than they used to be? Or there are dozens of firms putting together pistols from parts made by somebady else, and sometimes things just don't function right, right off the bat.

Most of what I buy is used. Some very used. And generally it all works. But I have alot of experience looking at things before I pay. Last .22 I got, guy at the shop said it jammed when they tried it on their range. Looked ok, I took it. 3 jams in the first mag. A little oil, and 200 rnds (ending range session) without any problems.

NIB? Why?

I just hear too many issues about Kahrs. It sounds like they need to get their posteriors in gear before they get a reputation for "nice try, but no go" like some of the no-longer-existing American "innovative" gun makers of the 1980's, who just couldn't get their QC together.

"If you bought a $600 suit"

Can you even get a good suit for $600? I bought a $500 suit in 1986 and it was well made. What would a similar suit cost these days - $2000?

When I buy a new handgun I inspect it right there at the store, the one they want to sell me and if it has no functional problems, or blemishes I take it. If it does I don;t and as such, have never had a gun fail to shoot as expected out of the box. I did however have a problem with a Glock G27 that was only about a month old. When I was feild stripping it a rial came off the frame. I sent it back and they gave me a new frame. I sold it imediately along with my G22 as I hate glocks. I have 9 1911's, 1 Wilson, 3 Kimbers and the rest Springers....love them all! Never had a problem with a 1911!

Uhhh, hey fun2shoot, are ya gonna tell us what the heck happened?

 What happened to what? Those NIB guns of mine that had issues or what? I'll answer if I can.
