Got a nice , sleek 140 pound wide 6 point (western count)Blacktail today. It was a 'Redwood forest' Blacktail and they are reddish and usually a little bigger than the valley ranch kind. The Carcass is hanging skinned in my garage ( 50-63 degrees)till Sat. am when it goes to the butcher. Because I was in an apple orchard the shot was about 90 yards and I hit the point of right shoulder from the front when it turned and looked. The .308 Win. 150 grain old silvertip (from mid 80's) plowed thru the shoulder bone, heart and lungs and kidneys where it pretty much was silver aluminum colored shrapnel! The bullet did not hold together but smashed the shoulder blade and plowed thru 30" of tissue and the deer dropped and kicked so who cares? I used a 1959 Savage 99F with a crystal clear El Paso Weaver 4x scope with post, and the second round was chambered so fast I didn't even remember, but was not needed. The shot was offhand, but my shoulder was leaning alonside a tree, kinda 'barricade style' . No I didn't have any 'buck fever', I think those days are gone, or it would take an African or Alaska Bear to get me going anymore.;)

Classic rifle/scope combo. I have one of those old Weavers that was originally on my grandpa's old Remington M722 in .257 Roberts. I've got a newer Bushnell on it now. The Weaver finally lost its nitrogen. I could STILL have it fixed under warranty, believe it or not, but I haven't bothered. Retired the old glass. I'll probably put a new Weaver on that rifle. I love the one I put on my .308 M7. That old Weaver/Roberts accounted for a LOT of Texas whitetail over its life, though. I got the gun reblued and refinished the stock a few years ago.

Yeah, we need photos.

If I were a mod I'd bann you for not posting pics with a hunting story.

Just kidding. :neener:

Nice job, and please post pictures man, c'mon!

Wow! 6pt! Congrats. Those Savage 99's live forever. Very popular rifle from the past.

Allright, I had a disposable waterproof camera in the truck and took a couple shots of the deer on the truck bed. I was alone and had to drag the 140 pound thing almost 1/3 of a mile . I hung the head over the bed and cut the throat and let him drip for 20 minutes before going home - 1/2 hour away. Now I have to have them developed and scan them and enter them in a j peg file. I haven't done this before. Go get your own pictures!:neener:

Good shootin, congrats! I just got a little 2point mulie, in sleet/snow no pictures. Had to do the drag up the ridge, but used a plastic kiddie sled, made it a little easier. Less than 140 lbs, but no complaints here. looking forward to your pictures.
