I'm still working on my first handmade leather holster (although obviously not very hard -- it's been weeks since I touched it).

I stopped by Tandy Leather in Minneapolis for some dye, wax and an edging tool. The guys (and gal) there were great about answering my questions.

I'd brought along the half-finished holster just in case, and when one employee though that I may have made it too big, I asked if anyone would mind if I showed him the gun. He said to go ahead.

I was dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, and in the store with my three-year-old daughter (who thought that the bags of shiny brass rivets were pretty). I think that they were a bit surprised when I pulled the P95 out of my SmartCarry holster. I cleared the gun and handed it to the employee, then showed him how I envisioned it fitting in the holster.

At one point, the female employee asked, "Are you a police officer?"

"Nope!" I answered cheerfully, and that was the end of it.

This is right here in liberal Minneapolis!

I would guess that folks that are interested in leather work are more likely to also be interested in things like motorcycles, horses or self-sufficiency, and thus less...um...gun-shy than average.

Pretty cool, anyway. :)

I still just laugh when I think of you having that big-assed Ruger in a Smartcarry holster all the time.

Not that there's anything wrong with it.....

:D

Heya, There's a Tandy leather that I've visited once in Richfield too, but they weren't very friendly or helpful at all, so I've never gone again :\

Richfield was the one -- the only one in town. I am three for three with helpful employees -- and I gave them every reason not to be helpful, coming in shortly before close with LOTS of questions.

I was there until 20 minutes after close Saturday, being cheerfully helped the whole time. I wish I could find gun shops this friendly!

Plbbt. I'm saving up (that is to say, buttering up the wife) for a Sig P239.

Still, when accosted by 31 mutant ninja zombies, I'll be covered -- you'll only get the first five or six. So there.
