Nickel plating oooooold M&P

I was offered an old M&P last weekend, S/N 176xxx, and the nickel looked very nice if it was the original finish. The lettering and logo was sharp, the ejector star was blue, as expected, but the hammer and trigger were nickeled. If it were all original, I'd have expected them to be color case-hardened. Did S&W nickel plate hammers and triggers waaaaaaaaay back when? My source put it about 1915, btw.

Could have been a special order, but normally the hammer and trigger were not nickle plated, IIRC.

Possible but very unlikely that it is original.
