This seems like a very typical newbie question, but a search for nickel didn't yield anything that jumped out...

Can you reload silver/nickel cases?

I'm talking personal defense (PD) ammo cases, and not steel. What is the difference between these cases vs. brass? OK to reload, longevity, effect on load data, etc.?

I'm only in the newbie-case prep phase. No press yet (see other posts). I have a modest amount of silver cases picked up at the range, and saved from cycling through some personal defense ammo. Also have some from running through some from GA arms. The last case I just finished was all silver (WIN, R-P, Speer, other).

Thanks (again!)

Those are nickel plated brass cases and are fully reloadable. The data will be the same.

Buy yourself a couple of good reloading manuals, such as the Lyman 48th or 49th Edition, and it will answer all your questions and have ample loading data for all the calibers you intend to load.

Hope this helps.

+1 for Fred. Nickel plated brass cases are fully reloadable.

I use nickel cases for most revolver calibers - they clean up easily in the tumbler. For auto pistols and centerfire rifles I like unplated brass cases.

Hello Tstorm. Welcome to reloading.
Some guys will tell you that the nickeled cases are more brittle. Believe me, you will never tell the difference. Save them now, load and shoot when you get your equipment.

Cmon guys!!! quit your lying!!! No, you cannot reload silver nickeled cases. Extremely dangerous.... Too shiney, too something...They can only be loaded facing NE on a full moon at a secret time and a secret location with a secret press and nobody knows the secret.

That said,TStorm, Please send me all your nickel cases. I will sacrifice the risk for you.

Just kidding...

Import part is that they are inspected carefully as with all brass. Once that is verified, Load away, Mate.

Cheers...

Well I'll be damned...Someone else who knows how to properly load nickel plated cases...

Well lgbloader...Hope you are proud of yourself. Now everyone will know how to load them...And there will be less for us...
