when you buy a handgun and they do a backround check, would they know when was last time you purchased a handgun in a different state or they just check if your record is clean?
lets say if i just moved to neveda a couple of months ago and would they know exact date the last i purchased a gun in other state?

In CA, absolutely, since you're allowed to purchase only one handgun every 30 days...so there's got to be a way to verify that you haven't purchased a handgun in the past 30 days. Other states I'm not sure about.

Chris M,

That isn't what the California law says.

It is unlawful for a person to apply to purchase more than one handgun within any 30-day
period. (Penal Code § 12072(a).)

Let's say I am active duty military, who maintains a home in California and a California driver's license but is ordered to duty in Nevada. In Nevada, I purchase a handgun from an FFL using my Military ID and orders to Nevada. I run across the border to my home in California. I can now purchase a handgun in California, because I have not previously applied to buy a handgun in California within the last 30 days. California law has no affect on me when I am in Nevada as a resident of Nevada because of my active duty orders to Nevada.

California law has no effect on what I do as a resident of another state. If I just moved, yesterday I was a Nevada resident, California law had no effect on me, any legal activities that were legal in Nevada conducted in Nevada while I was a Nevada resident are of no concern to the California DOJ. Today, now that I have moved to California, California laws are now in effect, and I am in compliance with the law by applying to purchase a handgun, because I have not within the past 30 days been subject to California laws and therefore have not applied to purchase a handgun as a California resident.

They might know, but why would it matter?

Ugh, I didn't know that y'all are contained to a handgun a month. That wan't the case when I left nine years ago.

That would definitely put a cramp on my style of buying whatever and however many I want, as many as five in a single day.

Kinda' like checking your calendar all the time, eh? You get your "monthlies".... LOL!

I left California at age 50, a fourth generation Californian

I'd like to see a national one-gun-a-month law.

Meaning, you must buy one a month. At least.

In answer to the original question, on the NICS check they do not, and could not, know when the last time you purchased one was as they are forbidden to keep records.
