I am wondering if a am still allowed to get my CHP in the state of oregon . I am of legal age but i was charged for careless driving a few months ago . I have gone through a class to aquire my permit and I have no trouble with backround checks to purchase firearms . Anyway my question is , is that careless driving charge going to prevent me from being able to obtain my permit ? thank you for your input in advance .

Don't know about Oregon, but here in NC you have to have a felony conviction, misdemeanors are OK, I suspect driving violations are another step below that. Good luck!!

I am not an Oregon expert but I would say that unless you had a fine that you didn't pay for along period of time that resulted in an arrest warrant, you are just fine, shouldn't have any problems at all.

Careless driving without an accident is a B violation, and careless driving with an accident is an A violation.... so in either case, a careless driving charge would not be enough cause to be denied your CHP.

thank you everyone . That is the best news i have heard in awhile . This is why i come to this forum , people know what they are talking about , they offer advice , and I have yet to have a question that I have not found an answer for here on THR . Thank you again

dont vehicle violations (moving ones) count as a misdemeanor if they cause some form of injury or damage (as in an accident?)

4. Not convicted or found guilty of a misdemeanor.

so speeding/reckless or such wont affect that, but if you ae involved (well, cause) an accident, or have alcohol influence, it turns into a misdemeanor, rather than a minor traffic violation?

Unless the charge was serious enough to show up on your CRIMINAL record (trust me, you'd know if that were the case), then you're fine.

However, general reckless driving/speeding CAN be a class 1 misdemeanor and requires a mandatory summons regardless in some states (such as Virginia, as I had to find out first-hand). But even then, it still goes against your traffic record. Reckless driving/endangerment, on the other hand, can have much more serious implications.

If you look at the second link that I posted it gives the class of all the different offenses. Careless driving in Oregon, even if there is an accident, is NOT a misdemeanor.

Most likely no it will not be a problem of course this will depend on the disposition of the violation.

Call your local county sheriff and ask, they are the ones that will or will not issue you the permit.

Why rely on the Internet when the source is a phone call away??
