NICS came back "delay"

My last gun was shipped to my FFL on Thursday. Normally 2-4 day wait for the background check. I called him today and he forgot to submit the background, so another 2-4 day wait after today.

So, from the time I ordered the gun from Gunbroker, to the time I can actually take it home will be just shy of two weeks. I barely remember the good ol' days of when I could go to the local gun shop, write a check for a gun, and take it home with me within a half hour.

But here n Washington, if I want to go get stoned out of my mind, I can drive right to the pot shop and buy all the weed I want.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My local FFL called me today and everything came back OK. I guess I was just nervous because this is the first time I’ve ever had it not be instant.

The VAF is no guarantee that you won't get delayed. It definitely helps though. I had to file for a VAF due to having my ID stolen. I have been denied once even having my UPIN and have gotten delayed a few time. The longest delay I had was 24 hours. That was when they had just started the computer 4473. It took 24 hours for a real person to review my background check.

I looked into filing a VAF as I get delayed 9/10 times. I don't mind the delay as all my gun stores are in towns I visit regularly anyway, so it is easy for me to pick up my firearm after getting groceries or some other errand.

I don't know if there's any correlation, but the only time I've ever been delayed was the only time I'd ever purchased at Walmart. Typically a friend who has an FFL but no shop orders stuff for me. He told me that every time he does mine online, it says "researching" for several minutes. Last time, he called in and was on hold waiting to talk with someone longer than it took to get approval after they got on the line.
