Hello all,

Been a long time since I've been here (looks to be about 12 years), but been even longer since I've bought a gun having to go through a NICS check (at least 13 years). Finally found a pistol I have been looking for for a while, and recently joining a club with an affordable range to shoot again (oddly enough they have both a race track and shooting ranges), so I jumped on it. Showed up at the local Cabelas from another Gun Library on Friday, went down to pick it up, and background check came back delayed. Salesperson halfway expected it, as he said he had ran more delays than approvals that day, and showed me a spreadsheet having to be 100+ folks waiting on a response from recently. Could only give me a time range from a couple hours to well more than a week on when I might hear back. Heard from a friend who has recently purchased a few pistols that a week may be quick, but another who sells guns that delays generally don't last long, i.e. all over the place.

Anyone have a realistic idea on how long it is taking to clear up delays these days? Custom holster is already in works, extra mags are on order, a small supply of 9mm acquired, just anxiously waiting for the gun itself to make its way home!

So there is another thread about what have you bought gun related in the last three days, and I quit posting before people figured out I had an addiction. I've bought two pistols this past week and the background check took longer than normal, probably 20 minutes when it was taking 3-5 minutes 6 months ago.

I know this isn’t the same but my “10 day wait” became a 13 day wait here in Calipornia for a Ruger New Vaquero that I bought last month (and still haven’t been able to shoot).

It was due to the overwhelming number of background checks received by the DOJ in CA.

CA worried you're going to do a mass shooting with that Vaquero? Crazy.....

Picked up a pistol I bought on GunBroker. It was sent to my FFL in Ottawa, KS. Took me longer to drive to the shop than it took to get approval. Took about 10 minutes.

I bought an M&P 10 in Texas on Tuesday April 28. Got a "delayed" response from NICS. Got a "proceed" on Thursday, April 30 at about 1:30 pm. It seems NICS has worked through the backlog for now. I got caught totally flat-footed by the recent buying panic. I ordered a gun from Bud's that arrived at my FFL on March 16. Got a "delayed". No further response from NICS, transferred the gun on April 15.

I bought in late March. With LTC I had no delay. I hope to repeat that result this coming week...

From what I have seen depending on who actually does the actual background check it can vary greatly. Couple this with the recent boost in sales and what we were used to is slowed some at the least. The only silver lining is all those that always thought you just walk in and plunk down cash and walk away or order it on Amazon Prime to have that machine gun or whatever be shipped to your door overnight were rudely mistaken. As it should be, if you were foolish enough to believe the media talking heads at all.
