Night Sight Installation?

I have two Beretta compacts type M and maybe soon get a revolver 686 for which I'd like to get night sights installed. Ernest Langdon is great for work with Berettas and Sigs but my compacts would cost $145 each for the Trijicon sights and installation. Any other options? Meprolights? Who could install these sights cheaper and just as good?

Sorry but I'm not familar with the Beretta M. If you're talking about guns that have sights that are dovetailed, you may just want to buy the sight adjustment tool straight from the factory and install them yourself. @ 145 a pop, it'll pay for itself. You can't use the old fashion "drift" and pound the new sights in. Don't want radiation leaks and sterilization. Regarding the S&W, that's much easier for the rear sight. You put in a screwdriver and keep rotating it until you break the nut. Then you slide in the new rear sight and stake the new nut.

BTW, am I mistaken in thinking the $145 is installation only or does that include the sight? Sights can cost about $100 each (shop around and I may be over/under pricing). In that case, it may be better to have him install your sights.

I'd say get them installed by a proper smith.... the trijicon warranty applies only if installed by a professional smith...

and speaking from personal experience.... I just mucked up my 9mm front sight trying to do it myself :banghead: go figure... sometimes, trying to save money just ends up in you spending more.... ah well... live and learn.

Mastro, don't the Type Ms have the not-so-dovetailed slides and it has to be drilled by someone like Tooltech?

The type M has to go on the road to get night sights. I know I have one and it needs to take the trip.

From what I've been told by Ernest Langdon www.langdontactical.com the guns have to be drilled to have the sights installed. I'm assuming that's possibly why it's $145 each, so from what I've learned through asking around, I think the best thing is to let him oversee the project so someone else doesn't mess it up....Thanks folks.

Yep. If it needs to be dovetailed, send it out. I've no milling machine so I have.

I used a punch to install a set of mmc sights on one of my glocks, no problem. When i went to install a set of heine straight 8s on my G21 i was having to pound so hard that i was worried i was going to break them so i took them to my local smith. He told me to wait a minute and after a minute comes back with them installed no charge. I asked him what kind of drift press he used and he said he had just locked the slide down in a milling vise and used a brass punch! I am starting the think that the pounding i am likely to give a sight is something less than the slide or the small explosions in the vicinity will give it.

If the vial busts you won't suffer from radiation exposure.
