My husband wants night sights for his Springfield XD for his birthday. It'd be nice if I could surprise him with good, reliable equipment without having to ask him what to get and spoil the surprise. Any recommendations?
I don't have night sights on my XD, but I do have Trijicon on a few pistols and like them quite a bit. High quality and good visibility day or night. Meprolight are generally good too. Keep in mind that if you or he don't have the tools or experience, you should probably have gunsmith install them.
The sights that G27RR recommended will fit any XD or XDm, so they are a good choice if you do not want to ask your husband too many questions. I highly recommend having a trained gunsmith install the sights. The tritium filled lamps can be easily damaged if proper care is not taken during instillation.
For an XD, I'd recommend sending it to the factory for the replacement. I've spoken to two different gunsmiths who refuse to change sights on an XD anymore - one broke his sight tool in the attempt!
It is entirely doable at home if you have some simple gunsmith tools & the experience to get them off and fit the new sights. But a sight pusher is not going to do it.
See this about that.
