Holy CRAP, guys!

Check THIS out!

And then THIS!!

It seems S&W is getting back into the .41 Magnum game!

Now...I loved the minty M57 I found...big, 6", blue steel, classic...

But, I was in rough straights and couldn't afford to shoot it. I sold it to Bluesbear and settled on .45 Colt, and later, .45ACP, in my revolvers.

But the .41 continues to taunt me...the only Magnum I have much experience with, and I fell in love instantly.

And now S&W has to come and do THIS.

Good on you, Smith & Wesson. Holy crap, again, I say.

:D

Yeah that 1981 6" transition model 57 looked real nice snuggled up next to my 1981 6" transition model 629, my 6" 1981 28-2 WSP Commemorative and my 1980 6" 25-2.

Sadly the 629 and 25-2 were lost after I broke my back but the other two are still around and will be back home someday.

Yes indeed, tantalizing new offerings from S&W (though I'm kinda waiting for the dinosaurs to chime in and complain, "But they've got The Lock, so they're no good") ... BTW, I've got a 686 w/the Hi-Viz front sight and v-notch rear sight -- what a great setup for outdoor shooting, I'm really starting to like these sights -- and the Kim Ahrends Cocobolo Fingergroove grips are my new favorite revolver grips now, too ...

Check the spec sheet.
It's listed as "Limited Availibility".

Smith and Wesson did this a couple of years ago with their model 27/28. They made a batch of them using pieces/parts factory leftovers.

Reports from potential buyers put the quality anywhere between Ok and awful. They were priced well above a used original NIB and reportedly nowhere near the same quality. IIRC, it was somewhere around 1997/1998.

Hmm, 4", blued .41 magnum -- the round designed to be better in every way than the .357, yet not quite so much as the .44. . .awful tempting carry gun to me!

Ever shot a Ti/SC magnum in .357/.41/.44?

Pretty brutal for my tastes. Sure would be great to pack around all day, but sheesh, I could develop a flinch real quick with them things.

But that's just me. I'm glad S&W is continuing to release new platforms, even though I am more of a blued carbon steel kinda guy. Plus the 357PD is priced too high for me to consider getting one.

But like I said, hooray for them bringing new guns to market!

Well the new S&W 57 is NOT made from leftover parts. It is just the latest in their "Mountain Gun" series. Everyone I know who bought one in the past have loved theirs regardless of caliber.

There is absolutely no reason to doubt it wouldn't be every bit as nice as the .45 Colt Mountain Gun I looked at last year. It was a beautifully manufactured gun. Fit and finish were flawless.

It's about time S&W produced the Mountain Gun in .41. As mush as I don't like the frame mounted firing pin, if I was looking for a 4" .41 magnum I would give it serious consideration. Although I have I always liked the feel of the standard 6" Mosel 57, I think the heavy barrel on the 4" 57 is a tad bit too heavy. The lighter more tapered mountain gun barrel soiuld balance perfectly.

And if anyone out there has a need, I have an extra 4" barrel from a Model 58 that's just gathering dust. I'll consider any reasonable offer.
