Tell me about the .41 magnum

I can only give anecdotal comments based on my experience shooting 41's. I just like them! I can shoot them better than a 44 mag in the same revolver model (S&W M57 vs M29). The recoil is a bit less than your average factory loaded 44 mag and it pretty much has the same effect. The only thing you really gain as far as I'm concerned with a 44 is a broader bullet selection and heavier bullets for hunting. But 250 gr 41 mags are nothing to sneeze at. It is plenty for my whitetail hunting with iron sights. Have a scoped 480 Ruger that I use also and it tends to be my deer hunting revolver now.

Until the time I got my first 41 mag, my Colt Python was my largest handgun caliber and I couldn't shoot that damn thing very well. So I was skeptical that I could shoot my M57 well. I was dead set on learning to shoot it well and I did. I actually shoot it better than most 357's and it is my go to big bore.

Last I checked, I have four 41 mags (three M57's and a Blackhawk).

I tried 44's and sold them as I just shot the 41 mag better. Give one a try, you may find that you really like them.

The weight diffence between a same model .44 and .41 is not noticeable.

Actually, everything else being equal, due to the .44 Magnum's slightly larger bore and cylinder chamber sizes, the .44 Magnum will be slightly lighter in weight than an equivalent .41 Magnum revolver and, as Mn Fats noted, virtually unnoticeable in practical terms.

Exactly right. I have a Redhawk in 41 mag and the little extra weight and slightly less power than the 44 mag make it noticeably nicer to shoot.

I carry a 1911 in 45 acp and love it but the Ruger Blackhawk in 41 mag I bought 40 years ago is still my favorite gun to shoot, got rid of a 44 mag because of it. Just my opinion.
